Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s all about food. I love food. I especially love eating it. Not really such a fan of making it myself, but eating it? Definitely. And surprisingly, I even love reading about food. Which these 10 books definitely deliver on!

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

It has been remarked by some that Hobbits’ only real passion is for food. Well, reading these books and watching those movies sure does help get my appetite going as well. And I’m so happy someone else out there (albeit fictional) recognizes the importance of second breakfast. And elevensies. And luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper… Also, PO-TAY-TOES. Mash ‘m, boil ’em, stick ’em in a stew.  And I really want to try some lembas bread.

It is my life long dream to be able to participate in one of those dinners in the Great Hall. If I was at Hogwarts, I’d be looking forward to those dinners every single day. Not to mention all the candy! Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Liquorice Wands, Jelly Slugs, and Chocolate Frogs all sound so… interesting. And can’t forget the Butterbeer at Hogsmeade!

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Before reading this book, I had never even tried Oreos. Now? I’m addicted and trying it all. Classic Oreos, Oreos with white chocolate around it, Oreo Cheesecake, Oreo icecream, you name it. But how could I not be, when Simon describes his love for Oreos so magnificently in this book? I want to live in his Oreo world.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

This book was so beautifully written, but especially the food scenes had my mouth watering so badly. I mean, can you make it through this sentence without your mouth watering even a little?

“They marched in unison until they arrived before the dais, setting plates of food in front of each guest–aromatic rice with fresh dill and split fava beans, lamb simmered in a sauce of turmeric and caramelized onions, skewers of chicken and roasted tomatoes, fresh vegetables garnished with mint and chopped parsley, olives marinated in fine oil, lavash bread with rounds of goat cheese and seemingly endless sweet preserves…”

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games made me look at food in a new way. Though the food in the Capital all sounded so, so good, the decadence that went with it was just sickening. Though Katniss’ favorite dish of lamb stew with dried plums doesn’t sound too bad, I mostly just really wanted to try one of Peeta’s breads.  Or Prim’s basil-wrapped goat cheeses.

Alex, Approximately by jenn Bennett

I discovered churros a few years back and fell in love with the taste of it. I only ever eat them when the carnival is in our town though and seeing as I haven’t been to one lately, it’s been a while since I had churros. Needless to say, I was a little jealous when I saw that the town in Alex, Approximately has churro stands on basically every corner.

Though I’m not a fan of cooking or baking myself, I would spend the day with Lara Jean and her family doing just that. Provided I can help eat it all afterwards, of course. But seriously, how much delicious food is mentioned in this book? Yum.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Ah, the wonders of French food. Macarons. Pain au chocolat. Chocolat chaud. Ham and cheese paninis. Belgium is right next to France and I can have these foods daily, but it still sounds so much more delicious to be reading about it for some reason?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

This book legit made me want to try goulash. Preferably in a lovely atmosperic and dark little bar/restaurant in Prague.

The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

This series made me want tot try blue food. Like all the blue food. Nothing in particular, just any food turned blue. Percy just made it sound so fun!

What are some of your favorite fictional foods, or books featuring food? Favorite dish in general?

To be honest, I don’t really pay attention to food in books unless it’s a book about a chef or something.

    1. Yay! I’m definitely feeling an Anna re-read coming up 🙂 Hope you’ll enjopy The Wrath and The Dawn when you get to it!
I usually only realize when I start getting hungry in real life, haha 🙂

  5. What a great list!! I’m pretty sure I was a Hobbit in a past life, because I think about food all the time! My first thought was for the meals at the Great Hall in Harry Potter, but you’re right, all that candy and chocolate, too, would be amazing! And I’d love to try Peeta’s breads or see one of his cake creations.

    1. Haha, me too! Always great to talk to a fellow hobbit 😉 Oh yeah, I could just imagine having one of those meals in the Great Hall and having some of that candy stowed away in my room for an evening snack (I obviously have put way too much thought into this 😀 )

  8. YES to lembas! And second breakfast, for that matter!

    1. I could never say no to second breakfast 🙂

  9. Po-tay-tos! LOL Oh man and The Daughter of Smoke and Bone made me want goulash in that restaurant they ate at as well! We should totally try to find it and go! 😀

Jennifer Estep’s books never fail to make me hungry at least once. Every. Book. LOL

    1. Haha yeah, reading about that restaurant and that goulash made me add Praque to my travel bucketlist so, so fast 😀
Oh, I’ll have to check out Jennifer Estep’s books! And have some food ready nearby 🙂

  10. Ahhh – what a cool list! PJ’s blue food got me smiling – I loved that.

Also I ABSOLUTELY thought of The Wrath and the Dawn when I read the title of this one! Definitely need to read DoS&B – after Strange the Dreamer I swore to read more Taylor but I just haven’t had time!

    Gorgeous list!

    1. The concept of blue food just sounds so intriguing and fun to me – I really want to try it too 🙂
Yeah, The Wrath and the Dawn definitely stood out for it’s mouth-watering food descriptions!
And I really need to read Strange The Dreamer, but it’s still intimidating me for some reason…
