Top Ten Tuesday

Books With Bookish Characters On My TBR

20220510 Bookish Characters

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday! Today we’re talking about books with bookish characters (these could be readers, writers, authors, librarians, professors, etc.) which is always fun because I love reading about bookish characters so much (maybe because I’m a bookish character myself?). So today I highlighted 9 books with bookish characters on my TBR!

By Any Other Name by Lauren Kate

An enemies-to-lovers romance about an editor, her bestselling author, and one life-changing secret.

The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka

A romance about two co-writers written by two co-writers? Yes, please.

The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas

This is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to The Spanish Love Deception, focusing on Rosie Graham and Lucas MartĆn, who are forced to share a New York apartment. Also, Rosie just quit her well paid job to focus on her secret career as a romance writer, but now she has writer’s block!

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

So youā€™re saying that the next Emily Henry book (the author of Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation, both of which were amazing reads) is a bookish story about a romance between a literary agent and an editor? I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to this (maybe I can: A LOT!)

The Bookshop of Second Chances by Jackie Fraser

A woman desperate to turn a new page heads to the Scottish coast and finds herself locked in a battle of wills with an infuriatingly handsome bookseller in this utterly heartwarming debut. Sounds like a recipe for a perfect read to me!

Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey

This is a YA enemies-to-lovers romance about two teens from competing bookstores. What’s not to love?

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

This has been on my TBR for so long but I really want to try it – I mean, it’s about library between life and death, where every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. That’s just such an interesting premise!

Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson

An editor who’s secretly writing a romance novel and a mysterious shadowy editor who’s writing notes in the margins of her manuscript – this sounds like the perfect combination of a bookish read and a pen pal romance and I love it!

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Sure, this is a fantasy romance about witches and vampires, but I heard that the library plays a big part too, so this counts right?

Tell Me:
Have you read any of these and if so, what did you think?
Or are any of these books on your TBR too?

Amazing list! I still must make mine but you bet that Book Lovers will be in the list!

    1. Book Lovers is definitely the first book I thought of for this list today šŸ™‚

  4. I have some of these on my TBR, too! Definitely looking forward to Book Lovers.

    1. Me too, hope it’ll live up to both our expectations!

  5. Great list, Lindsey! I’ve got quite a few of these on my TBR too but I totally forgot A Discovery of Witches. That one was really fun šŸ˜

    1. It does sound super nice indeed.

  10. One thing that struck me as I looked over your list is how so many book cover designers copy each other. It is as if they think their book won’t attrack readers unless it looks like all other books of the same type, or something. I totally misread the prompt. You did it right, I didn’t but I did make a fun-to-explore list. Check it out at Characters in Real Life

    1. You’re right, looking over this list it is striking how very similar all of the covers are. I like this kind of cover but a little variation definitely wouldn’t hurt!

  11. This is a great list! I haven’t read any of these yet, but many are on my TBR. The Midnight Library is my book club’s pick for next month. I’m excited to read it.
