One-Sentence Reviews For My 12 Most Recent Reads

20210504 Recent Reads

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s a fun one, because I get to talk about my most recent reads! I recently read some great books and some disappointing books. Some highly anticipated releases and some backlist surprises. So here we go!

The Intimacy Experiment by Rosie Danan

An intimate and steamy slow-burn romance between a former porn star and a rabbi and yes, it’s even better than it sounds. 4 STARS

Rule of Wolves (King of Scars #2) by Leigh Bardugo

I can’t even decide who I love more anymore – Nikolai, Nina or Zoya – but let’s just say I love them all and this was the perfect ending (though is it really an ending?) for all of them. 4,5 STARS

Once Bitten (Shadow Guild: The Rebel #1) by Linsey Hall

I’m still struggling to find amazing new adult urban fantasy series and this series did not have a super intriguing start yet, currently undecided whether I want to continue or not… 3 STARS

One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress #6) by Jeaniene Frost

I just adore this series so much and this sixth installment in Cat and Bones’ story was still just as awesome as the previous ones, even more so because Cat and Bones are solid together and still just as sizzling as ever AND we get to just enjoy a good gold-fashioned ghost hunting. 5 STARS

From Blood and Ash / A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Re-Read)

Combining these 2 because it was a re-read in preparation of The Crown of Gilded Bones, but I actually liked these more with a second read! 4,5 STARS

The Crown of Gilded Bones (Blood and Ash #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I adore this series so much and this third installment was another epic, edge-of-your-seat ride with unfortunately also yet another cliffhanger from hell. 4,5 STARS

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

This was a one-sitting read that was impossible to put down because the writing, the setting was absolutely gorgeous and the mystery kept me entertained and guessing throughout it all. 5 STARS

The Power of Five series (#1-4) by Alex Lidell

This was a reverse harem fantasy series that was super addictive as I read all 4 books in one week, but unfortunately also very disappointing because of a main character with zero personality, a general lack of substance and some cringe-worthy instalove. 2 STARS

  2. Gosh I hate it when books make you keep turning the page but then when you sit back and look at them it’s like, it really wasn’t that good, just entertaining.

    1. Yes, it just leaves you feeling so disappointed and empty in a way, when a good story should have the opposite effect!

I haven’t read any of these yet but I’m definitely reading Rule of Wolves. I’ll probably reread the rest of the Grisha verse books (with the exception of the short stories) first.

    1. Hope you’ll enjoy Rule of Wolves!

  17. Marianne Maurer says:

I have to remember sometimes that TTT could also mean “Top Twelve Tuesday”. 😉 Thanks.

I couldn’t agree more about “Where the Crawdads Sing”. Absolutely one of the greatest books of the last years.

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

    1. Haha yes sometimes 12 visuals fit nicer than 10 so I go with that 🙂

      1. Marianne Maurer says:

Exactly. I had a nice collage page once but it’s not there anymore, so I go with the strips my picture programme does. But five is too many and you can’t divide 10 by anything else without getting a rest. I did do twelve for next week and I love it. LOL So, thanks for the idea!

  18. I finished A Crown of Gilded Bones a few days ago myself. Sadly, I’m not that big of a fan. Happy reading! My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/my-ten-most-recent-reads/

    1. Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy A Crown of Gilded Bones!

  19. THE INTIMACY EXPERIMENT sure sounds interesting. Not my kind of thing, but it definitely has a grab-your-attention premise!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  20. I loved The Intimacy Experiment and Where the Crawdads Sing too. Your post also reminds me that I still need to read Rule of Wolves. I had planned to read it last weekend but then ended up binging Shadow and Bone on Netflix instead. Maybe this weekend, lol.

    1. Haha, binging Shadow and Bone is definitely a GREAT excuse not to read 😉

  21. Lauren Becker says:

Thanks for sharing; I haven’t read any of these. I like this idea though – of sharing a quick, one-sentence review of books!

  22. […] I scrolled through past topics and my previous posts for a bit and decided I really wanted to re-do this post. Because I struggle a bit with getting full reviews out on a regular basis, so this is still a fun […]
