Can't Wait Wednesday - Perfect On Paper

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  Howevern, as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

Hi everybody! I know that for the last few months I’ve been doing my own ‘Quote It Wednesday’ posts every single Wednesday, and though that won’t stop AT ALL (I love quotes too much), I decided to bring back one of my old favorite memes and switch it up a bit. So from now on I’ll be doing Quote It Wednesday one week, and Can’t Wait Wednesday the next. I hope this’ll keep the content more fresh and provide some more variety!

In Sophie Gonzales’ Perfect on Paper, Leah on the Offbeat meets To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: a bisexual girl who gives anonymous love advice to her classmates is hired by the hot guy to help him get his ex back

Her advice, spot on. Her love life, way off.

Darcy Phillips:
• Can give you the solution to any of your relationship woes―for a fee.
• Uses her power for good. Most of the time.
• Really cannot stand Alexander Brougham.
• Has maybe not the best judgement when it comes to her best friend, Brooke…who is in love with someone else.
• Does not appreciate being blackmailed.

However, when Brougham catches her in the act of collecting letters from locker 89―out of which she’s been running her questionably legal, anonymous relationship advice service―that’s exactly what happens. In exchange for keeping her secret, Darcy begrudgingly agrees to become his personal dating coach―at a generous hourly rate, at least. The goal? To help him win his ex-girlfriend back.

Darcy has a good reason to keep her identity secret. If word gets out that she’s behind the locker, some things she’s not proud of will come to light, and there’s a good chance Brooke will never speak to her again.

Okay, so all she has to do is help an entitled, bratty, (annoyingly hot) guy win over a girl who’s already fallen for him once? What could go wrong?

I’m super excited for this story, because it kind of reminds me of The Half Of It, but mostly because the author wrote this for a very specific reason. You see, in her previous book a bisexual character ended up in a relationship with someone of a different gender, and the author got a lot of backlash for that. She was told that a bi person who is in a relationship with a different gender is not correct queer rep. So basically, blatant biphobia. Which prompted her to write a new story, one that is a very queer, #ownvoices story about a bisexual girl, but with a main m/f pairing.

Because bi people are still queer and falling for someone of a different gender does not make them any less bi, any less queer or any less valid!

(You can find the author’s entire explanation on the Goodreads page for the book, where the author wrote this in a review)

Well Lindsey I just hope this will not feel forced after having read the reasons why she wrote it! But the blurn seems very entertaining!

    1. True, but I have high hopes that the story will feel natural and be a great read 🙂

  2. Oh my gosh, I can’t believe the author got backlash for that with her previous book. That makes me so mad! And this sounds like such a fun book. I definitely wanna read it now!

    1. Exactly, I couldn’t believe it either! Definitely looking forward to this book though 🙂

  3. Wow, that’s kind of harsh that the author felt she had to write a completely new book to “make up” for the perceived slight! This does sound like a fun read, though!

    1. Yeah, I definitely like that she fought back and dedicated a book to it haha 🙂 And it just sounds like a great read!

  4. I hadn’t heard of this one before but you had me at “Leah on the Offbeat meets To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” Sounds perfect!

    1. Two excellent references, that definitely sold me too 🙂

  5. This book has been on my radar but I had no idea of the reason the author has written it — what an utter bs!! Bi characters are queer rep no matter with whom they end up with if they end up with someone at all!

    I’ll definitely be reading it!
