Calendar Girls – January 2019 – Happy New Year: 2019 Release You’re Most Looking Forward To

Calendar Girls

The Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now hosted by Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads, and Katie at Never Not Reading. It was inspired by the 1961 classic song by Neil Sedaka and created to ignite fun bookish discussions among readers and bloggers.

So, just like the song, each month a new theme is chosen (participants will get to vote between two choices), and participating bloggers get to choose their favorite book within the theme, or the book they think best fits the theme, to talk about in a blog post on the first Monday of each month.

For today’s post, the theme and my selection are:

Happy New Year:
2019 Release You’re Most Looking Forward To:

King of scars by Leigh Bardugo

Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war—and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.

Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried—and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.

This was the easiest possible choice for me. Seriously, I normally have such trouble deciding and picking one winner, but this time the answer was obvious from the get go. Sure, there are a ton of other books I’m anticipating in 2019. Some of which I’m very excited about for sure.

BUT, only one book is one I’ve been DREAMING about happening for years now. Only one book that features my ALL-TIME FAVORITE CHARACTER and gives him his own duology. Only one book that made me so incredibly happy when it was announced that it was actually happening, FOR REAL. Only one book revisiting one of my FAVORITE WORLDS and does not only feature my all-time favorite character, but will also have other characters from previous series coming back. And that’s KING OF SCARS by Leigh Bardugo. Because NIKOLAI LANTSOV is THE BEST. That is all.

Check out my Top Ten post tomorrow for more anticipated releases, but know there’s only one number one and that this one 😉
