Hi everybody and welcome to a new Tag Thursday (hi, it’s been a while!).
I wasn’t actually tagged for this one, but it looked fun and I love doing these kind of end-of-the-year wrapups so I thought, why not? This tag was created by A BookTube Book, so go check out her entry!
Also, you’ll be pleased to know that I tried very hard (and kind of halfway succeeded) to keep the Red Winter fangirling to a minimum and give other nice books a chance to shine too. So let’s dive right in!
1. First ever female Doctor Who:
Favorite Female Protagonist
There were a few great female protagonists to choose from and honestly I almost went with Felicity from The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue but then I’m not sure if she counts as a protagonist (next year she will though!), so I decided to choose Audrey Rose from Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. I loved her character so much.
2. GCC Cuts Ties with Qatar:
An author you cut ties with
Maybe cutting ties is a bit harsh as I don’t really think there’s any author I cut ties with this year. But my absolute least favorite book of the year has got to be The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan, so I don’t think I’ll pick up any of her other books. I love a good romance and even a little smut from time to time, but this just was not for me AT ALL. Too much smut, not enough plot or character development.
3. La La Land Oscar Mix-Up:
A book that surprised you
Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. Even though half the world told me it was awesome and I should just read it, I was still skeptic. I mean, space zombies and evil AI’s? Not usually my thing. But OH BOY THIS WAS SO GOOD!
4. Hurricanes and Earthquakes:
A book that rocked your world
The Death Note manga collection by Tsugumi Ohba. Well, technically I first discovered the anime, but that wouldn’t exist without the manga, so yes, this manga rocked my world. It sparked an obsession that lasted months and is the start of my k-pop obsession (through the Korean Death Note musical, in case you were wondering), so it definitely had a major impact on my life.
5. Louvre Abu Dhabi:
Favorite book cover art
The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo. I mean, just look at it. The inside art is pretty gorgeous as well by the way.
6. Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi sells for $450m:
A TAKE-MY-MONEY book
The Red Winter series by Annette Marie. I loved the ebooks so much I even got a second copy just so I could have the physical books in my possession. Also, Annette Marie could publish her grocery list and I would throw my money at her for it.
7. Total Eclipse:
A sequel that overshadows the first book
A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab. Well, this entire series is just amazing, so I wouldn’t say ‘overshadow’ exactly. But it rarely happens that a series finale not only lives up to all your expectations, but even exceeds them. A Conjuring of Light is one of the most, if not THE MOST PERFECT finale I have ever read.
8. Muslim ban:
Favorite diverse read.
For this I’m going with Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. The messages spread throughout the book are just so diverse, positive, brilliant and uplifting. They made me want to quote every single page and recommend this book to EVERYBODY. I mean, it tackles so many important topics, from anxiety to fat-shaming, from biphobia to misogyny and so much more.
9. Italy doesn’t qualify for World Cup:
Most disappointing book.
The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich. It was a disappointing read because I was fully expecting this to become my all-time favorite read in the history of ever, and it turned out it wasn’t. I’m not saying it’s a bad book, and I will read Cale Dietrich’s next book for sure, but I am saying that too high expectations are not a good thing.
10. Prince Harry engaged:
Hands down Emi and Shiro from The Red Winter trilogy by Annette Marie. They made me swoon so bad, they made me laugh, they made me cry, they pretty much drowned me in feels and I love them for it.
11. Star Wars The Last Jedi:
Most anticipated book.
A tie between A Reaper At The Gates by Sabaa Tahir and Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli because you can’t make me choose between more Laia and Elias or more Leah and Simon and the gang <3
I swear, 2018 is the year I finally read something by Victoria Schwab!
Oh, I hope you’ll love V.E. Schwabs books when you get to them!
I might have to do this tag. I kind of love it. I agree with you about A Conjuring of Light. I just finished that book, and it was amazing.
Oh I’d love to see your answers to these questions! And so happy to hear you adored A Conjuring of Light like I did 🙂
Illuminae surprised me too even with everyone raving. I really want to read Queens of Geek and am so anticipating Leah on the Offbeat!
Glad to hear I’m not the only one who was surprised by Illuminae! Hope you’ll enjoy Queens of Geek and of course Leah On The Offbeat soon 🙂
Haha I love this tag and the categories!!! So awesome and relevant ?
I stiiiiiilll need to read The Red Winter series! Ugh! And Illuminae! Well, 2018 is another year, right ?
Hope you have an amazing 2018, Lindsey ? I’m really gonna try visit your blog more in the new year, too. Your posts are awesome, but I’ve gotten so bad at blog hopping ?
Thanks Amy! Haha yeah, soon we’ll have a whole new year to read ALL THE BOOKS! Or well, try anyway 😉
Ah don’t worry Amy, I love seeing your comments and I’m definitely trying my best to visit your blog more often in 2018 as well 🙂 Hope you’ll have an amazing 2018! <3
I love the titles you gave to each category! And it made me want to read Illuminae so much more! Great list.
Thanks! I do hope you’ll enjoy Illuminae when you pick it up!
Oh I agree with you on The Love Interest. And I loved A Conjuring of Light a lot more than the first book haha so I on board with your pick there as well. The Language of Thorns is just gorgeous.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one to whom The Love Interest didn’t live up to their expectations. And yes, how amazing was A Conjuring of Light?
Fun tag! And I agree with so many of your choices, especially the one about A Conjuring of Light. As good as the other books in the series were, that one was definitely my favorite.
Thanks! And yes, the entire series was great, but A Conjuring of Light was just a whole new level 🙂
Great tag! Love tags! 🙂 Take my money back! Okay, loving that one!
Thanks, feel free to do this one if you want! I’d love to find out your answers 🙂
