Ten Things Books Made Me Want To Do {Top Ten Tuesday}

books made me

As hosted by The Broke & The Bookish

One of the things I love about books? They inspire me. They make me want to do something, try new things, go new places or learn all about something.

Sometimes, that something is easy and quickly done. Sometimes it may take some time and some planning, but it can still be done. Aaand sometimes it’s completely crazy or ludicrous and will only happen in my dreams. But that’s just as much fun, right?

So anyway, here are some of the things books made me want to do:

Become a pro at shooting a bow and arrow

Because of: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Katniss makes it sound so easy (I know it’s not though). But it looks so cool!

Discover all kinds of Oreos in the history of ever

Because of: Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Simon vs the Home Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

This one is totally doable. I actually never tried Oreos before I read this book, but now I feel like I’ve discovered a whole new world of Oreo goodness.

Go on a roadtrip

Because of: Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour

Amy and Roger's Epic Detour

Roadtripping with just my husband or roadtripping with a van full of friends, I want to do this!

Learn how to bake cakes

Because of: To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

Lara Jean is so good at making desserts and she makes it sound so delicious, so of course I want to be able to do this too. Except… I kind of hate cooking. But still, I want to learn.

Get a job walking dogs

Because of: The Unexpected Everything

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Would I want to do this forever? Probably not. Would it be fun to take a step back and enjoy the simple things in life in the presence of some always happy dogs? Totally.

Get into Hogwarts and learn magic

Because of: Harry Potter

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

Ok, I may have to accept that this just isn’t very likely to happen. But I’m keeping it on the list. You know, just in case.

Be able to simply wish for a different hair colour

Because of: Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Come on, it really is a hassle having to go to the hairdresser’s every 6 weeks because my roots are showing. I want to just wish for it and have it be done. Also, a different color every day or week would be SO MUCH FUN!

Learn basic survivor skills

Because of: pretty much every dystopian out there

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Divergent by Veronica Roth  The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

Let’s face it, I would be the first casualty in The Hunger Games. I would be the first one eaten by zombies. I would pretty much just suck in any kind of dystopian world. I need some survivor skills. You know, just in case.

Go to Paris

Because of: Anna and the French Kiss

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

It doesn’t matter that I’ve already been there. I want to go again and visit all the places from this cute little book.

Learn all about Tsarist Russia

Because of: The Crown’s Game

The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye

Ok, The Crown’s Game isn’t even historical fiction, let alone historically accurate. But this era intrigues me and I want to learn more.

What are some things books made you want to do or learn about? Do we have some things in common?

  1. Ohhh I am the SAME WITH SO MANY OF THESE!! *flails wildly* I desperately want to go to Paris and also Russia…but just everything Russia completely intrigues me. Basically if I see a YA Russian book = I am there, devouring it at dawn.? And I definitely would like to try archery someday… :’) I mean, real archery. haha. I shot bows and arrows in the backyard with my siblings as a kid, but that’s not counted. Ahem. And omg I did NOT KNOW that To All the Boys was about cake baking?!? I need that book clearly.

    1. Totally agree, a book set in Russia is pretty much an auto-buy. Especially a fantasy book set in Russia. Especially Tsarist Russia 🙂
And I would love to try archery, but the pointy ends are a bit intimidating. I mean, I have two left hands, so maybe pointy ends are still a bit dangerous… But I’m sure I could learn, given some time 🙂
To All The Boys is definitely about cake. And all kinds of desserty goodness!

  2. Oooooo I really really like you list! SOme really great choices.
I have seen Archery on a lot of lists this week, but survival skills is a great addition too. Both of this would be so fun and useful to learn!
I would love to go to Paris too and I LOVE Anna & the French Kiss. I’ve put travelling on my list this week but specified Italy because I love it so much but have never been! So much Pizza and Pasta to eat and so many cool sights like the Colosseum and leaning tower of Pisa. Of course Paris has the Eiffel Tower which I would love to see close up too!
Cake baking is so much fun! I LOVE baking and I am constantly making cakes. Maybe start out with something simple like a Victoria Sponge, you can;t go too wrong with that and sometimes the most simple ones taste the best!
Such a great list! I wish I could go to Hogwarts too!

    1. Thanks!
I would love to learn some survival skills – you never know when you might need them 🙂
Italy is the best! I’m so in love with that country, and not only because of the food but to be honest that has a lot to do with it 😉
Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to give the Victoria Sponge a try!

  3. everyone’s lists are so fun this week!!! Love this! My TTT

    1. I agree, even just reading these lists gives inspiration 🙂

  4. Anna and The French Kiss, made me want to learn French and Travel to France. It would have been awesome to go to high school in France! Great Top Ten! 😀
    My Top Ten Tuesday!

    1. It would have been cool indeed to go to high school in France! Well, at least my French would have been better than it is now 🙂

  5. Yes on the survival skills! I remembering reading Divergent and thinking I would like to be able to have such skills. Even too, just skills to physically defend myself to the extent that are mentioned in the book.

    1. I agree! Reading those books always makes me realise I really would have no idea how to survive or defend myself in those kinds of situations!

  6. I would love to go on a road trip too! And of course going to Hogwarts is a must!
    My TTT:

    1. A roadtrips sounds like so much fun! And I’ll forever be waiting for my Hogwarts letter 🙂

  7. Yay, Morgan Matson love! She’s all over my list this week as well. Oh my goodness, To All the Boys made me want to bake ALL THE THINGS but then I remembered I’m not actually very good at it. so there went that :/

Wait. In Daughter of Smoke and Bone they can just wish for a new hair color and it happens? NOT FAIR. I’ve been complaining for WEEKS about how badly I need to get my hair done, but it’s so expensive. I am so jealous of this power.

    My TTT! 🙂

    1. I felt exactly the same with To All The Boys. It makes me want to bake, but then I remember I don’t actually like baking or am very good at it. But then it sounds so fun and delicious in the books and I want to try it again 🙂
Well they do have to work for it to get a wish, but yes, they can totally just wish for it. And it stays the same color, without any roots growing out so I am super jealous as well 🙂

  8. Ooooh I love discovering all kinds of oreos. Sounds like a lot of fun 😀 And hey, it can be combined with baking. Oreo baking~

    1. Wow I didn’t even think of that yet, thanks! A whole new world of Oreo-baked goodness is opening up here 🙂

  9. OREOS ???

This is such an amazing list. Going on a road trip would be so much fun. Also, oh man I so wish I could change my hair colour just by wishing haha. And go to Hogwarts of course. Learning to use a bow and arrow would be so cool too.

    1. I know, I can’t believe I never tried Oreos before reading this book. At least now I’m making up for lost times, haha 🙂
Also, of course if someone could wish for anything, they would wish for a different hair colour. Sure, having wings and being able to fly and do all sorts of cool stuff would be awesome, but first, let me change my hair colour 😀
