Top Ten Tuesday

Books I Meant to Read In 2020 But Didn’t Get To (YET!)

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s a post of shame as I take a look at the books I didn’t read in 2020. That’s right, even though I’ve been exclaiming all year long about how excited I was about these books and included them in my ‘most anticipated reads’ lists and ‘new releases I’m most excited about’ posts… I still didn’t read them.

This was in no way because I don’t want to read them anymore, but honestly mostly just because I was distracted by other reads. So yes, I definitely still want to read all of these. I just need to stop being distracted by shiny new books.

PS: I’m currently reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. So I’m getting there 🙂

A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer

By The Book by Amanda Sellet

The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren

Iron Heart by Nina Varela

Vicious Spirits by Kat Cho

Blood and Honey by Shelby Mahurin

Rent A Boyfriend by Gloria Chao

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

Fence: Striking Distance by Sarah Rees Brennan

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Have you read any of these?
And if so, which should I read first?

  1. Vicious spirits looks good. I’m interested in trying her books!

    1. I enjoyed her first book, so definitely want to try Vicious Spirits too 🙂

  2. Oh Kingdom of the Wicked. I had an arc of that but it didn’t work on my ereader. Than I bought an ebook which also refused to work on my ereader. I can read it on my comp of course but… I’m not ready for that.

I still need to read the first mahurin and varela books. They are judging me.

I liked A Deadly Education but the whole racism running through it as pointed out in various twitter threads is true. So I remain conflicted about the book.

    1. Oh no, I couldn’t imagine reading a book on my computer either! Though I used to do so for fanfiction, but that still feels different 🙂 Hope you’ll get to read it some way though!
I have to admit I didn’t know about racism in A Deadly Education, so perhaps I need to read up on that before diving into the book.

  3. I added “By the Book” to my shelf last year, but didn’t read it. But hopefully I will soon-ish because it does sound good!! 🙂

    1. It does sound good, so hope we’ll both be able to get to it this year 🙂

I have The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue on my tbr for this year too. And I just finished Serpent & Dove and can’t wait to dive into Blood and Honey. The Honey-Don’t List wasn’t my most favorite CLo book, and I’m always interested to hear what others think about it.

    1. I actually just finished Addie LaRue and loved it, so hope you’ll enjoy it too! I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about The Honey-Don’t List, but I still want to read it as I’ve enjoyed all Christina Lauren books so far 🙂

  5. Great list! A Deadly Education is one I still need to get, too. I hope you enjoy all of these!

    1. Thanks, hope you’ll enjoy A Deadly Education too when you get to it!

  6. I tried a bit of Invisible Life and By the Book last year and sent them both back to the library unread.

    1. Oh sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy those reads!

  7. The Honey-Don’t List was a cute read. I also meant to read Addie LaRue, but I haven’t been able to get a copy from my library yet!

    1. I hope to read The Honey-Don’t List soon. And I just finished Addie LaRue and really loved it, so hope you’ll enjoy it too when your library copy is available! 🙂

  9. Blood & Honey is one I hadn’t gotten around to either yet but today I finally got my copy in the mail!

    1. Hope you enjoy Blood and Honey! I’ve had a copy for a few months already, but I just… need to pick it up 🙂

  10. Ha ha I’m glad I’m not the only one who refers to this list as the list of shame! I read Addie LaRue last year and loved it, so I hope you do too! Kingdom of The Wicked was a bit more iffy for me, there were some parts I enjoyed but I did find it very slow.

    1. Haha, same! I actually JUST finished Addie and ADORED it! Good to know, though I do hope I’ll have better luck with Kingdom of the Wicked 🙂

      1. Yay, that’s awesome! I hope you do too, I really wanted to enjoy it but it was just too slow for me!

  11. While I’ve heard of some of these there are others that are new to me, and I love the covers of Iron Heart, and Blood Honey, very intriguing.

    1. They are indeed some gorgeous covers!

  12. You’re not alone – there were plenty of books I meant to get to in 2020 and just … didn’t. Good thing we can roll them on over to 2021, right? I hope you love all these when you get to them.

    Happy TTT!
