Welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today is all about the past year and the books I read so far that I loved the most. Here are the books that made me all happy, or emotional, or both. The books that I still think about, long after finishing them. The books that will stay with me for a long time still and the books I’m most likely to pick up for a re-read.

I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman

“The adverts end and an announcer comes on stage. When he reads the name of the next act, The Ark, I feel a spike of joy in my heart, a stabbing burst of love and happiness that makes me feel like everything’s going to be okay, as long as our boys are in the world.”

A multicultural, character-driven story about fandom, hero worship, friendship and anxiety.
My full review.

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren

“He’s fighting something, and he doesn’t even know it. He’s so far buried in his own dogma and his own world of shoulds that he can’t admit to himself that he’s into dudes, that he’ll always be into dudes, that it’s a piece of him, a perfect part of him, and it deserves admiration and respect and space the same way anything else about him does.”

I already read this story of a progressive bisexual boy who falls in love with the bishop’s closeted son in a strictly religious town twice because I loved it so much.
My full review.

To Kill A Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

“It’s the princes who hold the allure. In their youth. In the allegiance of their people. In the promise of the leader they could one day become. They are the next generation of rules, and by killing them, I kill the future. Just as my mother taught me.”

The story of a killer siren who steals the hearts of princes and the pirate prince who hunts her. What more do you need?
My full review.

Warcross by Marie Lu

“Everything’s science fiction until someone makes it science fact”

A virtual reality game that sounds like so much fun I wish it were real, a badass heroine and an intriguing villain: all reasons I loved it so.
My full review.

Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann

“”You’re worried whomever you choose to tell won’t believe you. That’s important to you?” “Of course it is. How would you feel if you exposed your identity and the world pointed, laughed, and called you a liar to your face? Would you ever want to do that again? How am I supposed to have any kind of romantic relationship with someone of I feel like I can’t tell them the truth?””

Biromantic ace rep. I repeat: biromantic ace rep. Also, swoony love interest <3
My full review.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

“I am going to keep on defying you. I am going to shame you with my defiance. You remind me that I am a mere mortal and you are a prince of Faerie. Well, let me remind you that means you have much to lose and I have nothing. You may win in the end, you may ensorcell me and hurt me and humiliate me, but I will make sure you lose everything I can take from you on the way down. I promise you this is the least of what I can do.”

Political intrigue, morally gray characters and the most confusing ship I’ve ever shipped.
My full review.

Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

“Creating art is a lonely task, which is why we introverts revel in it, but when we have fans looming over us, it becomes loneliness of a different sort. We become cage animals watched by zoo-goers, expected to perform lest the crowd grow bored or angry. It’s not always bad. Sometimes we do well, and the cage feels more like a pedestal”

Fandom, online friendships, art and anxiety: this story made me all emotional.
My full review.

The Spell Weaver trilogy by Annette Marie

The Shadow Weave by Annette Marie
  • Save

The Blood Curse by Annette Marie
  • Save

“Ash’s power. Lyre’s weaving. Clio’s magic. Maybe, together, they stood a chance to fix this before his worst nightmare became a reality.”

Anything Annette Marie writes is gold. That is all.

  2. You’ve read all kinds of different books this year!! I always get jealous of people who read all the different genres when I’m one of those people who really stick tightly to the “type” of books I like.

    1. Thanks so much! Depending on my mood I usually switch between either fantasy or contemporary, I still have a lot of genres I’d like to discover too though. But if it works and you love it, why switch, right? 🙂

  3. Three cheers for “Warcoss.” LOVED this adventure so much – way more than I ever thought I would since I’m not a gamer. Here’s hoping the sequel is solid.
