WHAT IT’S ABOUT:

I’ve said it before, but sometimes I’m a bad person. I cheated on my twelfth grade math final, I’ve run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn’t require moral perfection.)

But there’s bad, and then there’s bad. And I’m not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he’s about to add “revenge-fueled killing spree” to his resume—if I don’t stop him.

Should I stop him?

He and his nemesis are gearing up to tear each other apart, rogues and vultures are converging with their sights on the spoils, and the guilds that would normally stomp them into the ground are under attack. We’re on the brink of an all-out criminal turf war, and my time to decide is almost up.

Who’s the real bad guy … and do I dare stand in his way?

MY THOUGHTS (SPOILER-FREE):

Note: I received an Advanced Reading Copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

By now, it’s probably no surprise to you how much I love this series. I have several reviews and other occasions where I’ve been raving about Tori, the fiery main character, or her three best friends, or the laugh-out-loud humor or the epic worldbuilding or the heart-warming friendships or the swoony slow-burn romance. I mean, this is not new. It’s book six by now and I love this series a little more with each and every new book.

Book six is no exception. If I were to describe this book in one sentence it would be “Oh My God, shit is hitting the fan”. Things are intense! This is the biggest book in the series so far and it’s a rollercoaster ride from page one right up until the very end. Don’t worry about any slow moments here! It’s basically a non-stop attack on your emotions. I came out of this book exhausted. Yes, we get some answers and yes, there is still humor and heart-warming moments throughout the book, but mostly it’s just your feelings being attacked. Part of me wants this series to go on forever, but the other part just wants to make it to the end with all my feelings and all my favorite characters happy and well.

For all those fans of a certain Druid, this book will satisfy your appetite for sure. Zak is definitely a major player in this book and sooo many questions about him are answered. And oh yeah, he’s still pretty badass and oh yeah, his interactions with Tori are still HI-LA-RIOUS (until they are not, whoops). You know who else gets a lot of spotlight in this book? My own favorite electramage, Kai. I’ve been wanting for more of him since book one because even though I love all these characters equally, I have a special place in my heart for Kai and YES I FINALLY GOT MORE OF HIM AND ALSO MY HEART IS BROKEN. On another character spotlight note, can I just quickly say that Twiggy may be my new favorite sidekick character ever? Love this tv-obsessed little dude.

I don’t want to spoil too much. So I’ll only say read this series. It has so much going for it and it hurts me to think that not everybody has discovered this little gem yet. Almost as much as this sixth installment hurt me (in a good way) But not quite. Sooo how long until July?

everything hurts

Author bio:

Annette Marie

Annette Marie is the author of Amazon best-selling YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced adventures and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad) with her husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.
