Anything But Books Tag

Hi guys and welcome to a new Tag Thursday!

Today let’s talk about… well… anything BUT books (as the title of this tag already cleverly suggests). As much as I love talking about books (and boy, I love talking about books), there also is so much more out there I love and I would jump at the opportunity to talk about some of that as well!

So naturally, when I saw this tag done recently by Lauren at Wonderless Reviews and by Marie at Drizzle & Hurricane Books, I knew I just had to give it a go myself. This tag was originally created by Katie @ ReaderRot, you can check out her original video here.

1. Name a cartoon(s) that you love

I must admit that I haven’t been watching any cartoons lately. When I was younger though, I LOVED a lot of cartoons (and I do still love them). I loved Looney Tunes. I loved Rugrats. I loved Hey Arnold. And so much more. I also loved the animated shows of X-Men and Spiderman and ofcourse, I’ve gotta mention pretty much any Disney.

Rurouni Kenshin Yuri-On-Ice Death Note

But what I have been enjoying recently, even though it doesn’t really count as a cartoon (but it’s animated so we’ll just go with that) is anime. When I was in highschool I was a huuuge Rurouni Kenshin fan and lately I’ve been loving both Yuri!!! On Ice and Death Note.

2. What is your favorite song right now?

Well, you may have already heard me talk about this in my March wrap up, but since about a month I have become obsessed with kpop. I may not understand most of what they are singing, but I love it nevertheless. I can’t really choose a favorite song, so let’s go with my 3 favorite artists/bands and the song I’ve been playing the most by them.

Xia

Xia, or Junsu, was the first Korean artist I discovered (through his role in the Death Note musical) and I love everything about him. My favorite song by him is Flower, which is my motivational song right now, but I also love Incredible, Tarantallegra and Rock The World.

BIGBANG

This kpop boy band has been dominating my playlist for the past two weeks. And more than just their music, I actually really adore all 5 boys, their personalities and their brotherhood. I can’t stop watching their music videos, live performances and interviews. Just my luck that I discovered them when they are on a hiatus as a group at the moment but okay, at least I still have solo albums to look forward to. I love a lot of songs by them, both as a group as solo, but my most played is Bang Bang Bang, because I love this performance specifically. But maybe that’s because I can’t stop staring at G Dragon (For those who don’t know, he’s the one with the red hair in this video)

BTS

These guys. They’re my most recent favorite, and truthfully I fell in love because I watched their dance practice videos and they are ON FIRE! I can’t take my eyes off of them. If you love dancing and choreography, I’d highly encourage you to look up some of their dance practices on Youtube, because they are amazing.  My favorite songs right now are Blood, Sweat and Tears, Not Today, Fire and Dope.

3. What could you do for hours (that isn’t reading)?

I could binge-watch tv shows ALL DAY LONG if you’d let me. In fact, I prefer binge-watching shows over watching each episode as it comes on. I have binge-watched shows such as Stranger Things, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, and so on.

You're_Beautiful City Hunter You Who Came From The Stars

Another recent addiction of mine are kdramas. If you love binge-watching and addictive shows, kdramas are THE BEST. This month, I have spent many hours on shows such as You’re Beautiful (nun-in-training pretends to be twin brother and joins kpop boy band), City Hunter (guy runs around city to get revenge on the 5 high-profile corrupt politicians that killed his father, looks amazing while doing so) and You Who Came From The Stars (400 year old alien falls in love with popular actress and gets mixed up in a murder mystery).

4. What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

I think in general, most people are always surprised when I say I love to dance. But, I am in a dance club which rehearses 1 to 2 times a week and has shows about 5 times a year. We do a mix of styles and just low-key have fun. I’m not ever gonna be a professional dancer or win competititions or anything, but it’s something is just genuinely love doing.

I guess that dancing (and performing in front of people) is not exactly an activity that most people would say fits me, an awkward and anxious little introvert who normally prefers to be behind the scenes instead of in the spotlight. But I’ve been dancing ever since I was a little kid and it is just something I love. It’s my escape and my anchor. Is it still out of my comfort zone? A lot of the times, yes. But I also couldn’t imagine my life without it.

5. What is your favorite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about (this can do with books, I guess)?

I am one of those people who gets enormously excited by and feels passionate about a million different things and wants to learn about them all. But I also have a rather short attention span and so it’s kind of like the squirrel-effect…

Squirrel

For example, one minute I am intrigued by Greek mythology. Next, I want to learn art history. Then, I want to learn Japanese. Or try yoga. Ooh, maybe I could take up drawing? Or start a few marketing classes. Oh hey, let’s learn all we can about Alexander Hamilton and American history. No wait, I want to learn more Photoshop. Scratch that, I want to take up photography. Hey, psychology sounds pretty cool. Should I brush up on my Spanish? No wait, I want to learn more about Greek mythology…

So yes, I love learning about basically everything. But there is so much out there and my brain just short-circuits and I end up with a little bit of knowledge about a lot of different things that I really can’t do a lot with.

6. What is something unusual you know how to do?

I honestly don’t know how to do a lot of things and don’t have any hidden talents…

But for what it counts, I am one kickass singer / rapper, on the condition that I am completely alone and no one can hear me, and things like singing in key don’t actually count.

I especially love learning songs by heart (preferably really fast, difficult ones or really angry and dramatic ones) and then singing them super dramatically while I’m driving my car (while of course prioritizing safety). My favorite car jams include the Hamilton soundtrack, Fat Lip by Sum 41 or Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit.

Carpool Karaoke

Yes, sometimes I remember that my windows are in fact see-through, which means other people can see me. But then, I also remember that I don’t really care and just continue my one-woman show.

7. Name something you’ve made in the last year (and show us, if you can)

Well, I made this blog? And create content on a regular basis? Does that count?

I’m not super creative in other aspects, I haven’t really created anything else. Though I always really want to. *Cue me googling drawing classes. Again.*

8. What is your most recent personal project?

Again, I consider this blog to be my biggest personal project. It does take up A LOT of my time (and I love every minute).

But if I have to give a different answer here, I guess I could say my recent marketing certificates that I’m studying for. I recently got the Hubspot Inbound Marketing Certificate and next I want to get the official Google Adwords and Google Analytics certificates. And after that maybe the Facebook Blueprint Certificate.

9. Tell us something you think about often (maybe while staring out of windows)

  • Fictional worlds and fictional characters
  • My latest obsession(s)
  • Coming up with the perfect response to a random conversation that happened two years ago
  • Overthinking and stressing about things of past, present and future
  • This blog
  • What exactly is the function of a rubber duck?

10. Give us something thats your favorite, but make it something oddly specific, not like your favorite food, but like your favorite food when you’ve been studying for hours and forgot to eat. Or, you know, something like that.

Well, how about my favorite comfort food and matching comforting routine?

Maybe you guys already know, but Belgium is pretty well known for its fries. We have carts selling fries at pretty much every corner. Usually, they are eaten with sauces such as mayonaise or ketchup. However, ever since I was a little kid, I have loved a pretty strange combination, which is fries with chicken curry. It’s not available everywhere and a lot of people have called this a weird combo, but it’s still my favorite. It’s not exactly healthy, but a little bit now and then works wonders for me!

However, for it to work as comfort food, a very specific set of rules needs to be followed. They have to be eaten on a Friday evening. Because Friday = frieday. Also, because at the end of a busy week, comfort works best. Also, they need to be eaten in front of the tv, while binge-watching a favorite new show, together with my husband. If all those rules are met, I am one super relaxed and happy camper.

And hey, now you know exactly how hard I party on Friday evenings!

Lastly, say the first thing that pops into your head

Saranghae!

Because it means I love you and I love everybody who took the time to read my ramblings. Also, it’s the first bit of Korean I learned from all my time listening to kpop and watching kdrama so far…

Tagging whoever wants to do this!

Talk to me! What are your favorite cartoons? What’s something you could do for hours? How are your car (or shower) singing skills? Am I the only one to suffer from the squirrel-effect when it comes to learning new things?

  1. This was very interesting. It was nice to get to know you better. It’s cool that you can dance. I’ve always wanted to be able to do. But my mom said when she tried to put me in ballet I wouldn’t pay attention. And as I grew up it seemed I had no rhythm. lol. I can sing but dancing is rough. I also love anime. Death note was so good! I need to watch Yuri on Ice. Everyone is talking about it.

    1. Haha, I definitely don’t always have a lot of rhythm or attention either, but I still love it so much 🙂 That’s so cool that you can sing, I’d love to be able to do that but I just totally can’t so I keep my singing for when I’m completely alone 😉 Anime is definitely amazing. So happy you loved Death Note too!

  2. I loved reading your answers, so happy you decided to do this tag! 🙂 I LOVE Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls so, so much – I miss both of these shows. Also, where is my Gilmore Girls sequel now?!!! I am still waiting hahaha.
It’s so cool that you are getting marketing certificates like that – I do want to do the same thing maybe, someday ahah 🙂

    1. Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls <3 Those are definity two series I could watch again and again for the rest of my life! And yes, I so agree about needing the Gilmore Girls sequel right about now ;)

  3. What a fun tag! I always love learning fun facts about my fellow bloggers. That’s so cool that you’re in a dance club. I think the only ones we have around here are line dancing, which doesn’t really appeal to me. Otherwise that’s something I would love to do as well.

    1. Thanks! I love these kinds of tags as well, because it gives a chance to get to know fellow bloggers a bit better with something other than book-related stuff 🙂
Oh, I’m sorry there are not really any dance clubs in your area! Line dancing is definitely something special, I think it would be fun for a class or two, but I wouldn’t love it all the time either, as the only dance style available.
