February 2017: The Month Of Kitsunes, Greek Myths, Shinigamis and… Spider-Man Music? {Monthly Wrap Up}

February 2017

Hi and welcome to my February wrap up!

February has been filled with many new obsessions. I don’t think I’ve ever read more in my life, I fell in love with a new fantasy book series on Japanese mythology, I got back into some Greek mythology fantasy books, I fell deeper into the black hole that is anime and I discovered some new (to me) music.

But… it also caused a bit of a blogging slump and for that I’d like to apologize to my blogger friends. I’ve been so sucked into my new obsessions that I’ve been slacking on blogging. I haven’t felt like writing a lot of posts so I stuck with just the basic: Top Ten Tuesday posts and reviews. I’ve also been so behind on commenting. So… I’m really sorry! Here’s hoping March will be better on that front.

Anyway, here’s my wrap up of all those obsessions:

Books I Loved Less Than I Thought I Would {Top Ten Tuesday}

170221 TTT Loved Less

Hosted by The Broke & The Bookish

Hi guys, today it’s unpopular opinion time! Today I chose to go a very uncomfortable path for me and talk about a few books I read recently that were just a bit disappointing. This is uncomfortable because I always appreciate any author and the hard work they put into writing a novel, but sometimes I just… don’t love them as much as I thought I would.

I just want to point out that I did enjoy these books overall, but there was just something about them that didn’t click for me personally. I’m not here to bash these books at all, I’m just saying they were a bit disappointing to me in some way. Most of these book still got at least a 3 star rating from me. So I hope that if this list contains any of your faves, it doesn’t mean we can’t still get along 🙂

Anyway, on to my list:

What it’s about:

Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.
