Hi everybody, happy September and welcome to my August wrap-up!

About half of my reads in August were re-reads, all in preparation of upcoming new releases or movie adaptations. Naturally, those were fun (I always love a good re-read) but also the books I read that weren’t re-reads were pretty great. Let’s go!

Well Matched (Well Met #3) by Jen DeLuca (RE-READ)

My final re-read of the series and I loved revisiting Mitch and April’s story. 4 STARS

Well Traveled (Well Met #4) by Jen DeLuca

This was the only volume in the series I hadn’t read before, so I fixed that now 🙂 While I did enjoy Dex and Lulu’s story more than I had thought I would, it still wasn’t my favorite in the series. The change in the character of Dex was just not quite convincing enough for me. But I did love Lulu and learning more about tarot cards. 3,5 STARS

Stay for a Spell by Amy Coombe

THIS WAS FUN AND ADORABLE. A princess cursed to live in a bookstore until her heart’s desire comes true? With a dashing pirate coming by to annoy her and 7 princes coming to kiss her because of course her parents think true love’s kiss will break the curse. This was such a cozy read! – 4,5 STARS

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood (RE-READ)

Wanted to re-read this to prepare for the upcoming movie adaptation and still love it as much as the first time I read it. 4,5 STARS

A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR #1) by Sarah J. Maas (RE-READ)

Another re-read, this time to prepare for the new book coming out end of October. Still love this series, and this book is the start of it all. 4,5 STARS

Father Material (London Calling #3) by Alexis Hall

I was a bit hesitant to start this one because as much as I ADORED book 1, I definitely had mixed feelings about book 2. I shouldn’t have worried, book 3 definitely made me love this series and its characters so much again. This was basically like a peek into Luc and Oliver’s life, now that they’re ready to add some more love to their family. It was great to be reunited with these characters, see their daily struggles and how they overcome it with open and honest communication. Also, the secondary characters are a hoot as always. 4 STARS

Elle (Season 1)

I really enjoyed this one! It was fun and I loved all the characters. Also, Lexi Minetree is an amazing Elle Woods.

Emily in Paris (Season 5)

I also really enjoy this series, though I’m also happy the next season is the last one as I do feel it’s time to wrap it up. As much as I love Marcello, I do hope for an Emily and Gabriel endgame.

Project Hail Mary

I did a bookworm faux-pas and watched the movie before I read the book… BUT the movie was amazing and only made me want to read the book even more, so that’s good right?

The Odyssey

I finally went to see The Odyssey in the cinema and I.. loved it. I know there are some mixed reviews out there, with experts on the original pointing out many flaws and missing aspects. But for me, I only remembered the big lines of the original story so maybe that made it easier for me to enjoy the movie as its own story. And looking at this movie that way, it was a great piece of storytelling. Made me want to read up more on the original and discover what I did miss. Especially loved the acting for Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson.

I had 3 weeks off from work in August (this is the last week) and I used the time to relax and catch up on some sleep and some reading and some TV, as you can see from the wrap up 🙂

THINGS THAT MADE ME HAPPY THIS MONTH:

• Three weeks off and being able to take the time to chill 🙂
• We celebrated my grandmother’s 90th birthday!
• At our archery club, we had an initiation into 2D and 3D shooting, which basically means shooting at 2D or 3D images of animals in the woods, from multiple distances and angles. So different from shooting at a paper target from a fixed distance, which is what we usually do. It was quite fun and I would love to try it again.
• My husband and I took a trip to visit “Abbaye de Villers” which are the ruins of a former abbey. It was a wonderful visit and I recommend it to anyone living or visiting Belgium. It’s such a pretty and atmospheric visit, and interesting as well!

THINGS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

• The start of the cozy ‘BER months!
• My husband and I’s 11th wedding anniversary.
• So many bookish releases to look forward to: Love Felt Like This, Dead Beat, Grim Tidings, The Wretched Divine, Well Versed and Threshing Day!
• The Love Hypothesis movie adaptation releasing September 23rd!
• Two planned dinners with friends.
