Hi everybody! We are officially in the second half of the year so once again it’s the perfect time for the Mid Year Book Freakout Tag! This tag is created by ReadLikeWildfire and Ely Jayne

At this moment, I’ve read 29 books of my goal of 50. Not too bad 🙂

That said, let’s just get started with this bookish freakout!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2025.

I wasn’t expecting it, but Sunrise on the Reaping had me in its grasp for a whole month after reading it.

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2025.

Phantasma’s still my favorite, but Enchantra was pretty amazing too!

Enchantra by Kaylie Smith

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

Can’t wait to dive into this one!

Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

I’m super excited for the sequel to Direbound.

Furybound by Sable Sorensen

5. Biggest disappointment.

For an entire series, I was looking forward to Beau’s story – and when it was finally there it turned out to be my least favorite of the series…

Hopeless by Elsie Silver

6. Biggest surprise.

I’m not a big dark romance fan, so imagine my surprise when I absolutely adored this stalker romance! (It helps that said stalker is also kind of a cinnamon roll)

Lights Out by Navessa Allen

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

I was obsessed with Direbound by Sable Sorensen.

8. Newest fictional crush.

Rowin. It’s the tattoos and piercing. Maybe also the adorable fox familiar.

Enchantra by Kaylie Smith

9. Newest favourite character.

It’s a tie between Kaine Sutler and Maysilee Donner.

Silver Elite by Dani Francis
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

10. Book that made you cry.

I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to watch the movie adaptation because I’ll be a mess.

11. Book that made you happy.

Wooing the Witch Queen was just such a cozy, sweet fantasy romance – I had the biggest smile on my face reading this one

Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

I only watched one book to film adaptation and that was when I decided to watch The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes for the first time during my Hunger Games obsessed month 🙂 I never watched it before because I honestly didn’t really enjoy the Ballad book. But after reading Sunrise on the Reaping, I listened to the Ballad soundtrack, and I LOVED all the songs sung by the character of Lucy Gray (they feature in THG and Sunrise too, so it’s all connected) and I decided to give the movie a try. And while I still don’t really care for the story as a whole because I just can’t enjoy Snow as a main character, I do think that it was a great adaptation with an amazing cast and a wonderful soundtrack.

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year.

I haven’t written very many reviews yet this year, but I love the ones written for faves.

Review - Direbound

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

The gorgeous Kickstarter edition of the Red Winter trilogy by Annette Marie!

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

So many, but here are a few books I’m hoping to read in the second half of the year:

Rose in Chains by Julie Soto Good Spirits by B.K. Borison The Songbird and the Heart of Stone by Carissa Broadbent A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna

I Tag You!
What are some of your favorites this year so far? And your most anticipated reads for the rest of the year?

  1. I need to do my mid-year freakout book tag soon too! I still need to read Sunrise on the Reaping and I’m planning on it but I need to be in the right headspace for it, if that makes sense? And I’m definitely adding Direbound to my list also.

    1. I definitely get needing to be in the right headspace for Sunrise on the Reaping! Take your time for it 🙂 I hope you’ll love Direbound if you decide to give it a try!

  2. Oh, Maysilee!

    1. She’s such a great character, definitely one of my all-time favorites <3

  3. So many great books. Of all these I have only read Songbirds.
