“WWW” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Taking On A World of Words.
Hi everybody, and welcome to a new WWW Wednesday! For this post, we’ll be answering three questions (the 3 Ws):
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What are you currently reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
I just finished reading The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore in ebook format.
I was drawn in by the hype, the fall vibes and the Gilmore Girls-comparisons. But alas, while this in theory had everything I loved (small town romance, sunshine vs grumpy, found family, fall vibes, quirky townspeople), the execution did not work for me. Everything was just too superficial, like there wasn’t any time for development. There was no chemistry, not in the romance nor in any of the friendships. The story just rushed through it all and lost me along the way.
I just finished reading Wisteria (Belladonna #3) by Adalyn Grace as audiobook.
This was a solid finale. While the first book, Belladonna, will always be my favorite of the trilogy (because I simply adore Signa and Death), I did also really enjoy this final installment that dove deeper into Blythe’s character arc. The ending was satisfying and I may have shed some tears.
I am currently (still) reading City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards as ebook.
I got a little sidetracked by reading The Pumpkin Spice Café instead but now I’m diving back into this urban fantasy. I’m about 15 chapters in and I’m not totally convinced yet but I’m willing to give it a bit more time for me to get really invested.
I am currently reading Phantasma by Kaylie Smith as audiobook.
I just started this yesterday, so not too many thoughts yet. But I wanted to read something dark and eerie yet not too scary and I thought this dark fantasy romance that’s described as Caraval meets Throne of the Fallen, about a necromancer working together with a deadly phantom to survive a deadly competition set in a cursed manor, sounded like it would fit the bill.
As usual, I’m a huge mood reader so who knows what I’ll be reading next? Until the moment I pick up a book, not even me knows. But here are a few possibilities I’m thinking of:
You are not the only one to feel meh about the Pumpkin Spice Cafe I think. Also meh is how I felt about the Wraith King and I DNF the Book of Azrael. It might be me but…
What you said about The Pumpkin Spice Café is how I felt about Haunt Your Heart Out.
I’ve been seeing The Pumpkin Spice Cafe everywhere but I don’t think I’ve seen a rave review of it yet!
A coworker of mine just finished PSC as well and had similar feelings–too surface level. Fluff is fun, but that doesn’t mean surface level, you know?
Ooh these all look so good. I have the Book of Azrael on my TBR
