Monthly Wrap Up

March 2023: The Month A Fictional Band Took Over My Life

2023 Wrap up - March

Hi everybody, and welcome to my March wrap up!

Yes, it’s finally spring everybody! Well, the weather here hasn’t been very springlike yet, but I’m sure we’re getting there soon. We already have longer days which is already doing wonders for the mood.

As you can see I’m not doing a Top Ten Tuesday today, but instead posting my monthly wrap up. March has been a bit hectic and I’m behind on posts so I thought I’d skip this TTT in favor of posting my wrap up #trying 🙂 So let’s just dive right in!

What I Read

The Maid by Nita Prose

The Maid was a fun mystery that shined because of the unique, fresh and thoughtful POV of main character Molly. I loved reading this story through her POV so much. Only downside to me was that I thought the eventual reveal of the killer was a bit of a letdown. Luckily, the mystery aspect wasn’t the main thing about this book, but rather the characters were and that’s were the book really shined.

Don’t Hex and Drive by Juliette Cross (Stay a Spell #2)

I’ve been really enjoying this paranormal romance series about a family of witch sisters and their supernatural love stories. The second one is about introverted sister Isadora and Bollywood vampire Devraj. Though I have to admit it took me a while to warm up to these two characters, I ended up really enjoying the story and the romance.

A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley

This was one of my most highly anticipated debuts of 2023 and it did not disappoint! It was a great balance of entertaining, funny, swoony, steamy and emotional. It was so addictive I sped through it in a couple of days.

Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score (Knockemout #1)

This is a hugely popular book and now that the second installment in this series released, I wanted to see what it was about. And I got HOOKED! This is romance gold – I love the small town setting, the sunshine/grump dynamic and the found family vibes. I loved it so much that I immediately dived into the second book ‘Things We Hide From the Light’ right after and now I’m enjoying that one.

Faking It With The Grump by Kate O’Keeffe

Faking It With The Grump was a quick and enjoyable rom-com that featured two of my favorite tropes: fake dating and small town romance. Sadly though, there was no grump in sight.

What I Listened To

March’s playlist was full of a certain fictional band, as well as comebacks of some old favorites and some solo releases.

Daisy Jones & The Six – Look At Us Now (Honeycomb)

Yes, I binged Daisy Jones & the Six this month, both the show and the Aurora album, and I have no regrets. When I read this book, I wished desperately the album was real so I could listen to it, and now that wish has come true and it is AMAZING.

Fall Out Boy – Hold Me Like A Grudge

Another wish come true this month is the fact that we got another Fall Out Boy album. I love this band so much, and their new album is… well… AMAZING 🙂

Mike Shinoda & Kailee Morgue – In My Head

I’m forever nostalgic for any Linkin Park vibes, and this new Mike Shinoda song has been on repeat all month!

Jimin – Set Me Free Pt 2

Jimin’s first solo album is here and it is so poppy and catchy and also quite badass, which I love.

What I Watched

I watched one kdrama and two highly anticipated book-to-screen adaptations this month:

Semantic Error

Semantic Error is a 2022 kdrama based on a web cartoon. Computer science major Chu Sang-woo is the embodiment of an inflexible and strict rule-abiding person. While working on a liberal arts group project with freeloaders who don’t put in any effort, Sang-woo decides to remove their names from the final presentation. One of those “freeloaders” is popular Design Student Jang Jae-young. He decides to find Sang-Woo and wants to make him pay, but ends up falling for him instead. But with their two clashing personalities, how will it ever work out? This as a super short show (only 8 episodes) and I LOVED it. The chemistry between the two leads was amazing, and overall it was just a fun, addictive show. I can imagine myself rewatching this one many times in the future.

Teen Wolf: The Movie

I watched this together with my BFF, as we’ve both been huge fans of the Teen Wolf TV Show, so of course we were highly anticipating the release of the movie. Was it a great movie? No. it was very confusing and had a convoluted plotline and disappointing ending. BUT it was fun and nostalgic to see all our beloved characters again (well, most of them, still missed Stiles and Kira).

Daisy Jones & the Six

I think a lot of people who read the book by Taylor Jenkins Reid have been (im)patiently awaiting the release of this TV adaptation and I was one of them. Ever since I read the book, I fell in love with this fictional 70’s rock band and wished I could listen to their songs for real. And now that wish came true! I ADORED this show. Though it’s been a few years since I read the book, I don’t remember everything 100% so I can’t say exactly how accurate the adaptation was exactly, but I feel like the overall vibes and storylines were SPOT ON. The characters from the book really came to life and I once again became so invested in their lives. I laughed, I cried, I sang along. I think this will be one of my favorite adaptations of the year and maybe ever.

Life Update

March honestly was a bit of a ‘bleh’ month. Work was super busy and then I got sick, but like an idiot (I do this every time and never learn) I kept thinking it was just a cold that would be over after a day and just kept on going, and working, and even working extra hours, but then I kept feeling more and more like shit, but still kept on working. Eventually I was a mess for two whole weeks before I got better, and I suffered the consequences for not taking a rest by being exhausted all month long. Then, by the time I was almost recovered, the hour changed and I was exhausted all over again. So yeah, next time I’ll just go to a doctor when I start feeling sick and take some actual time off and then hopefully get better after less time.

That said, it’s a new month now, spring is here (well, the weather hasn’t quite caught up yet, but I have hope) and there were still things to be happy about!

Things that made me happy this month:

  • I had a movie date with my BFF! We watched Teen Wolf: The Movie and though the movie wasn’t great, some quality time with my BFF was amazing.
  • I babysat my godchild one Saturday evening and she is growing up so fast!
  • We booked a long weekend away in April, so I’m looking forward to some chill time.
  • My grandfather turned 90, woop woop, and we celebrated his birthday with a family dinner.

THINGS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

  • Two long weekends because it’s Easter, and one of those weekend we’re going on a trip so I’m looking forward to that.
  • So many anticipated bookish releases: The Do-Over, Spell Bound, Stolen Sorcery & Other Misadventures, The Nanny, Between Us, In the Lives of Puppets and Happy Place <3
  • A Stray Kids comeback is rumored, but not yet confirmed, and I’m excited anyway.

How was your March? What did you read? What did you listen to and what did you watch? What are you looking forward to in April?

Lindsey xoxo

  1. Too bad your month was a little bleh. It was the same for me. But now I’m very much looking forward to Stolen Sorcery & Other Misadventures. I miss Kit!

  4. I want to read The Maid. And I agree about the weather and moods- I feel so much better now that it’s spring lol!

Speaking of spring… it’s been the same here! Lots of rain and still cool- but we’re supposed to warm up soon hopefully!

    1. I really loved The Maid, hope you’ll love it too!
Yes, just a bit of sunshine can make such a big difference in mood. Hopefully spring will start fully very, very soon 🙂

  5. I haven’t watched DJ yet. I’ve been waiting for a time I can binge it. We haven’t gotten very springlike weather lately either. I’m eagerly waiting for it!

    1. I hope you’ll love Daisy Jones when you have the chance to binge it 🙂 We had 2 days of sunny spring weather last weekend and now we’re back to rainy and moody weather haha – hopefully spring will start fully very soon!

      1. I just watched it over the weekend and I really liked it! I did wish they hadn’t changed a couple of things, but it didn’t bother me too much.

        1. Yay, glad to hear you liked it! I know they changed a few things, but it’s been so long since I’ve read the book that I don’t know exactly what they changed… but the vibe felt spot-on to me, so that made me so happy 🙂

  6. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader says:

I so miss Linkin Park too!

    1. Me too, they’re still on my playlist on a weekly, if not daily, basis <3

  7. So sorry you were sick so long. It is hard to take time to rest/heal. I have Faking it with the Grump on my TBR and I am disappointed that there is not a grump in sight! I hope April is a better month for you!

    1. Thanks! Yes, next time I’ll definitely try to stop and take a rest sooner 🙂 I hope you’ll love Faking It With The Grump more than I did – maybe going into it with the right expectations (meaning more opposites attract instead of sunshine/grump) makes all the difference.

  8. Glad you’re doing better and have a weekend getaway planned for this month!

    1. Thanks so much!
