My 4 Types of Comfort Reads: The Books I Reach For Over & Over Again

20220531 Comfort Reads

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today we’re talking about our comfort reads, the kind of books we turn to whenever we need to escape. I have a few of these comfort books, the books I can re-read over and over again whenever I feel the need and they always do the trick. Taking a look at my comfort reads, I also found that they usually fit into one of these 4 categories (some overlap may occur):

‘Serotonin In A Book’: Hopeful, Feel-Good Reads

Some reads are just so full of hope and love and happiness that reading them NEVER fails to make me feel all warm, happy and comfy. I can re-read these regularly and still that feeling would not lessen.

Feel-Good Standalone YA Contemporaries

Though I haven’t been reading as much YA as I used to, whenever I feel a reading slump or even a life slump coming on, I will always reach for YA contemporaries. There’s just something so comforting about YA contemporaries. Maybe it’s the feeling of nostalgia and an innate wish to relive some of those precious high school moments, but YA contemporaries always do the trick when I’m feeling slumpy.

Swoony Adult Romances

As a self-proclaimed huge sappy romantic, a good adult romance will always lift my spirits. I can re-read these regularly and they are always such a comfort. Ever since 2020 (yep, that year) I’ve been reaching for romances even more than before. Nothing better than a HEA, right?

Favorite Fantasies To Get Lost In All Over Again

Of course, sometimes I don’t just have a need to escape my own life for a little bit, I also want to escape this world we live in and just trade it in for another, magical world. That’s when I go for re-reads of my favorite fantasies, so I can relive the adventures all over again, without (most of) the stress of not knowing what’s going to happen.
