Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday! Today is time for another post of shame because we’re talking about books we were excited to get, but still haven’t read. I’m focusing specifically on my physical book collection, because that’s the worst somehow? (audiobooks and ebooks are more the ‘purchase and read immediately’ type of books to me, but physical books… they’re a collection too)

Also, the majority of these books were gifts (that I requested because I was so excited to get them) so I really, really hope none of my gift-givers will read this post. I love your gifts and I will read them soon, I swear! Until then, I also really like looking at them?? No bookish gift is ever in vain, because collecting books is also a valid hobby… right?

Anyway, let’s dive in!

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco – I was super excited about this series, and then I got the first book as a birthday present 2 years ago and then proceeded to just not read it…

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty – This is more recent, as I got this as a Christmas present last year, but still… It’s been on my TBR for so much longer than that.

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint – Another Christmas present last year – I promise I’ll read it soon!

Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan – I remember reading the first book in this series during the start of the pandemic and the first lockdown. I immediately ordered the sequel afterwards and then… yep, never read it.

Aurora’s End by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman – I’ve been super excited for this series finale for so long, so why have I not read this yet?

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang – This was a Christmas gift from 2018 or 2019 and yet… I failed it again.

Scythe by Neal Shusterman – I got this for myself several years ago, I can’t even remember. It’s one of those books that, whenever I see it I always think “Oh, I’ll read you soon”, but then never do.

The Diviners by Libba Bray – Again, I have this on my shelves for so long that I don’t even remember when I got it exactly. Every time October comes around I think “Oh, this is the perfect read for spooky season” and then before I know it, spooky season is over and my mind is on different things again.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor – I think I got this in a Fairyloot box a few years back? I was super excited to read it as I loved Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, but so far it has remained on my shelves unread.

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater – This came out in November 2019 and I got it as a Christmas present the next month – but I still have not actually read it…

  12. Whoops. Forgot link: My unread books

  13. I liked Call Down the Hawk, but it took me a while to get to too. I don’t know if it was because it had been so long since I read the previous series or what. I still haven’t read the next book.

    1. I understand, because I think the reason I haven’t read Call Down the Hawk yet is because I want to re-read The Raven Boys series first… but I keep putting that off too so maybe one day πŸ™‚

      1. Eh, I say just jump in without rereading. You’ll probably be okay.

  14. I haven’t read any of these but I have several friends who are obsessed with The Diviners series!

I’ve read THE DIVINERS and I really enjoyed it. I need to continue on the series, though.

    1. Haha, I totally get it, a pretty cover is just irresistible!

  17. Great list! The City of Brass and Kingdom of the Wicked are on my TBR too. I’ve heard so many great things about them.

  18. I’ve actually read almost all of these, I think there’s only about three that I’ve not read (maybe 3.5 as I started Ariadne but never finished). I’d recommend starting with The City of Brass as that was my favourite of the ones on your list that I’ve read.

I also own and need to read Kingdom of the Wicked. Call Down the Hawk was a gift and I really need to read it!

I loved Scythe, but never read the other two because I’m just bad with series. LOL

I loved The Diviners, and I highly recommend. There are four books, and I’ve read the first three.
