The 3 Authors That Started My Recent Adult Fantasy Romance Book Obsession & 10 More I Want To Read Because Of Them

20210608 The 3 Authors That Started My Recent Adult Fantasy Romance Book Obsession (1)

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s topic is all about book I loved that made me want more books like them and honestly, this was an easy one because, as you may already know from previous posts, I’ve been on a quest lately. And that is an adult fantasy romance/urban fantasy romance quest.

I didn’t used to be so into that genre. In fact, I have to admit I’d been a bit judgmental about it. It’s just that the covers often look so… not good? And I let that influence my feelings about the genre as a whole.

But then I discovered an author whose books I fell so in love with that they convinced me to try more. And then I found a few more books and authors in the genre I adored. So now I’m CONVINCED I want to try more!

So here’s my story…

It all started with:

(Well, this will surprise absolutely no one…)

Annette Marie

…and her absolutely perfect blend of fantasy worldbuilding, action-packed pacing, intriguing and loveable characters and the sizzling, slow-burn romance:

And…

Jeaniene Frost…

…whose Night Huntress universe novels have not only revived my love of all things vampire romance, but have also increased it tenfold. The covers are … umm… not my favorites, but the writing and stories within own my heart so much and have taught me to look beyond the cover.

And…

Jennifer L. Armentrout…

… and specifically, her Blood and Ash series, which is a super addictive fantasy world with fantastical creatures and a romance that sizzles right off the page.

And now I really want to read these…

…in the hopes that they’ll also feature that perfect blend of fantasy world building and action with the most addictive romance and I’ll end up loving them just as much as the above. Despite their often questionable covers.

The Orchid Throne by Jeffe Kennedy
Kiss The Fae by Natalia Jaster
A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet
The Winter King by C.L. Wilson
Radiance by Grace Draven
Of Goblins and Gold by Emma Hamm
The Power of Hades by Eliza Raine and Rose Wilson
Pestilence by Laure Thalassa
Shifter Wars by Kelly St. Clare
Fighting Destiny by Amelia Hutchins

  1. I’ll confess that this is not.my genre, although I do love fantasy! I wonder whether you have read The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden… some fabulous covers in your list too!
    My TTT is here https://bookloverssanctuary.com/2021/06/08/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-loved-that-made-me-want-more-books-like-them/

    1. Ooh The Bear and the Nightingale is on my TBR! It sounds like a magical read.

  2. I think the covers put off a lot of readers from the books by jeaniene frost. A shame. I still have to continue the series one of these days. Must get the ebooks at some point but I have so many other long series to read first aurgh.

    1. Yes, it’s indeed such a shame because the story inside is so much fun. Haha, this is a really long series indeed, I’m trying to finish this one before I start any other new long series 🙂

      1. I saw you were starting the last one?

        1. Yes indeed, I’m now reading the final Night Huntress novel! Though I do have about 6 of the spin-offs to go still, so not sure if I also want to finish those before starting a new series or not… Could still take a while if I do, haha 😂

  3. If the covers of the possibilities are any indication, you are on the right track, I think.

    1. They do all have a similar vibe indeed!

  4. I hope you enjoy all of these books! There’s something so fun about doing a deep dive into a genre. 🙂

    My post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-loved-that-made-me-want-more-books-like-them/

    1. Thanks! Yes, deep dives can be super fun 🙂

  5. Great list! I love a bit of romantasy, but you’re definitely not alone in being put off by the covers. I really enjoyed Radiance and Grace Draven is probably my favourite romantasy author – I don’t think she writes particularly good villains, but I’m reading her books for the romance more than the plot. I also have to recommend her Beauty and the Beast retelling, Entreat Me, which is SO much fun!

    1. Haha, glad to hear I’m not alone in being put off by the covers of most romantasy (love that term btw!). Grace Draven comes highly recommended by so many, she’s first on my list to check out! I’ll definitely look into Entreat Me because I can never get enough Beauty and the Beast retellings 🙂

  6. I don’t read a lot of fantasy, but I do read a lot of romance, so I can relate to that part!

    1. Romance is definitely another love of mine! 🙂

  7. I really love what you did here with this post giving us 3 that inspired you and what they made you want to read. That’s so cool!

    1. Thanks so much! Now, I just need to actually read them all, haha 🙂

  8. Lauren Becker says:

I used to read more adult fantasy and paranormal books. I need to get into them a bit more. I’ve always loved the author Molly Harper. I’m so behind on her books though! I like the couple of books I’ve read by Dakota Cassidy too.

    1. Haha yes I am so obvious and I don’t even mind 😀

  12. I’ve read a couple of books by Grace Dravin that I liked. Radiance was ok in my opinion but not my fav. I definitely need to check out Jeanine Frost’s books (need the library to finally re-open) and your tbr list looks great as well

    1. I definitely need to check out Grace Draven as I think she has a lot of books out. I hope you’ll enjoy Jeaniene Frost books when the libraries re-open 🙂

  13. I’m not familiar with Frost but definitely need to read more books from JLA and Annette Marie. The ones I have read have been so good!
