Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!
As the year 2020 has almost come at an end, it’s time to take a look back at our favorite reads of the year. And boy, do I have a list for you. I just couldn’t reduce the list to only ten, so that’s saying something. As crappy as 2020 may have been in general, at the very least I got some amazing reads in, so silver lining!
I need more Alex and Dawes and Darlington and I need it now!
I cried throughout the entire last third of this book, so needless to say it’s amazing and epic.
Read both of these in 2020 and fell in love with squad 312 immediately. The humor, the sarcasm, the found family and most importantly the character of Finian because of course I love the sarcastic alien the most.
I listened to this on audio and then I immediately purchased the hardcover, because I just needed a copy of this for my shelves. Badass librarians, sentient books and sassy sorcerers for the win.
This book was like Star Wars, but gay and with a little complicated ‘friends who are actually enemies but also love each other’ thrown in there.
This story about a woman switching places with her grandmother for a month was so heartwarming and adorable.
This was the most wholesome and loveable story about asexuality I’ve ever read.
Fake dating between a chaotic disaster and an uptight lawyer provides lots of hilarious shenanigans, but also all the heartwarming adorableness and swoons.
Ace rep by Alice Oseman and wow, this book definitely lived up to its hype.
Two writers stuck in writer’s block spend the summer in neighbouring beach houses and despite to swap genres to try and get them out of their writer’s block. This was amazing and fun and way deeper and messier than expected.
This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2020 and IT EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS. Trans boy wants to prove he’s a brujo to his family by summoning a ghost – except he summoned the wrong ghost and is falling for said ghost. I love Yadriel and Julian with all my heart.
I HAVE RE-READ THIS BOOK ALREADY 2-3 TIMES THIS YEAR AND I HAVE ZERO REGRETS. If I just had to pick one 2020 favorite, this beautiful story about found family would be it.
I know, I know, I am getting predictable with all this Annette Marie raving but also, I don’t care because these books are amazing and I love each and every one of them so much. This year we had the final books in the Spellbound series, the series that started it all, and it was EPIC. We also had the final books in the Demonized series, which I loved nearly as much or even more (depending on my mood of the time) than the Spellbound series. AND there was a new spin-off in the Guild Codex world, and its main character Kit Morris may have become my favorite character of the entire guild codex world.
This is an older series that I only just got into this year after a recommendation by Sophie at Beware of the Reader and I FELL IN LOVE immediately. This series has it all: lots of action and adventure, intriguing characters, a ton of humor and sass and one of the most perfect romances I’ve ever read because Cat and Bones are just perfect together.
Though I wasn’t immediately hooked on From Blood and Ash, the story stayed with me months after reading. And then I read the sequel, A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire and HELLO NEW OBSESSION!
I re-read the first two books in the series so I could immediately binge-read the final two books afterwards and it was the best reading experience of 2020. I adore this series and the finale was both heartbreaking and yet satisfying.
