Top Ten Tuesday

Bookish Characters I’d Love To Cosplay for Halloween

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s a Halloween freebie, and I wanted to talk about something I have personally never even done but really want to do some time, and that is wearing costumes for Halloween! I’d especially love to be able to dress up and cosplay as one of my favorite bookish characters.

Have you ever done a bookish costume/cosplay? If so, feel free to let me know and share pictures!

In the meantime, here are the characters I’d love to pretend to be for a day/night:

Manon Blackbeak
art by Taratjah

Sure, Celaena would be cool to cosplay too, but Manon is epic and my favorite character from the series. I’d love to cosplay as the badass witch.

Necessities:
Long white hair/wig, worn loose or in a braid. Black riding gear (necessary for wyvern riding). And a long, red cape. Oh, no weapons needed, just long deadly claws/nails.

Bryce and Danika
art by sncinderart

How awesome would this cosplay be for two BFF’s? I’d love to cosplay as Danika, anyone want to be my Bryce?

Necessities:
For Bryce: long red hair, sexy short dress, pointy ears
For Danika: long blond hair, streaked with all the colors of the rainbow, black leather jacket inscribed with the words “Through love, all is possible”

Tori Dawson

Tori may be the most human in this entire list, that doesn’t mean she can’t handle herself!

Necessities:
Red curly hair/wig, black leather “battle gear”, belt filled with potions and magical artifacts, a Queen of Spades playing card, and long purple cape. Three male friends would be welcome to cosplay Tori’s three mages.

Alex Stern

Who doesn’t want a chance to cosplay the badass Alex Stern, survivor with a rattler’s soul, who can also see ghosts? I would!

Necessities:
Long black hair/wig, black clothes, umm tattoo sleeves? (technically, they could be ‘magically hidden’ so without could work too)

divider black
Nina Zenik

I love the fierce and funny, waffle loving heartrender and I’d love to cosplay her, if only for the chance to wear a gorgeous kefta. And to be able to eat waffles and yet be completely in character!

Necessities:
Long brown hair/wig, red kefta with black embroidery (for the order of the heartrenders)

Yennefer

Though it felt like everyone was swooning over Geralt when the TV show came out, I immediately adored and rooted for Yennefer, the powerful sorceress with a painful past.

Necessities:
Curly black hair/wig, violet eyes/contact lenses, velvet choker with obsidian star, wears black/white clothing only

Jude Duarte
art by SnCinder

Jude may be one of the only humans on this list, but she can scheme and manipulate with the best of the faeries. I’d rather have her on my side than not, thank you very much.

Necessities:
Brown hair styled into two horns, blue dress, necklace of rowan berries (for protection against faerie compulsion)

The Umbrella Academy

I so badly want to do an Umbrella Academy group cosplay, pretty, pretty please?

Necessities:
School outfits, eye masks

Tell Me:
Which bookish character would you love to cosplay as?

  1. I’ve never done cosplay (other than at Renaissance faires) before and think it’d be a blast! Annette Marie’s books and Six of Crows both seem like they’d be naturals. šŸ™‚

    1. Oh, I hope to be able to go to a Renaissance Faire some day!

  2. Love your twist on this week’s topic! I’ve never cosplayed a book character, but it’s something I’d still love to do one day and, funnily enough, Nina is a character I’d love to cosplay, too. So many women in fantasy are slim that it’s really nice having Nina around! I’d also love to have a go at Violet from Rat Queens, though. šŸ˜€

    1. I never cosplayed before either, but I’d love to cosplay a bookish character. Nina would be an awesome character for cosplay for sure!

  3. I think I’d made a great Velma! šŸ˜‰ (Bookish in her own way lol)

But yes if you do ever get the chance do Nina. She’s awesome!

    1. Oh Velma would be such a fun character! I’d love to cosplay her some day too (or Daphne, since I’ve already got a similar haircut and colour but not a fan of the purple dress haha šŸ™‚ )
Nina would be my favorite to cosplay for sure!

  4. These would all be so much fun to cosplay as! Especially Tori! Haha

    1. Tori would be awesome, I could just take my Queen of Spades playing card and run around yelling Ori Repercutio and I’d be all in character šŸ˜€

  5. Love this! I think the easiest for me to do from this list would be Nina – and the waffles are definitely a bonus!

    1. Nina is an awesome character, and the waffles are definitely a big bonus šŸ˜‰

  6. The Umbrella Academy would be pretty fun! Great list!

    1. Thanks! They would be a fun group cosplay for sure šŸ™‚

Oh, what a fun list! I’ve never cosplayed, but someday I’d like to.

    My post.

    1. Me too, I’d love to cosplay some day!

  8. Molly's Book Nook says:

OH I love this list! It would be fun to dress as so many of these. especially Yennefer! Heck yes! I would like to do Ciri as well, but that would require a wig lol

    1. Haha yeah, wigs would not be so comfortable (though might be fun)! Both Yennefer and Ciri would be fun cosplays though!

  9. Fun post! I think I did this topic a few years ago–you rocked it by comparison with anything I could come up with! Great job!

    1. Thanks so much! I’d love to see more bookish cosplay happening šŸ™‚

  10. Dressing up for Halloween is a big thing here in the U.S. I’ve never been into it, though, even as a kid. Just not my thing. A lot of people go crazy for it, though! You’d enjoy Halloween here, I think šŸ™‚

    Happy TTT!

    1. Oh I’d love to celebrate Halloween in the US! It’s not as big here, which I always thought was a pity šŸ™‚

  11. I love the costumes for all these characters. I think they would be great for cosplay/Halloween.

    1. Thanks! I’d love to be able to cosplay them someday šŸ™‚

      1. You’re welcome!

I love your take on this week’s topic! Nina would certainly be a fun character to dress up as. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    1. Nina would indeed be awesome!

  15. I cosplayed as Tris Prior for the an Insurgent/Divergent double feature before. I’ve also cosplayed my own character from my book.

    1. Oh Tris is definitely a fun character to cosplay! And being able to cosplay your own character would be so amazing!

  16. This is too much fun! I don’t do a lot of dressing up now, but I think I’d totally give it a shot if I could land on the right literary character.

    1. I’d love to do a bookish cosplay party just so I can guess all the literary characters šŸ™‚

  17. These are all such fun ideas!

    1. Thanks, I’d love to try them some day!
