Books That Should Be Adapted Into Netflix Shows/Movies

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s all about books that should be adapted into Netflix series or movies! Now, I have some mixed feelings about adaptations. I always love when a book I love gets an adaptation, because it means more people will get to experience the story and characters I fell in love with. But on the other hand, if the adaptation doesn’t live up to the book, it can be rather disappointing. However, a few disappointing adaptations have so far not lessened my enthusiasm for more adaptations! (SO EXCITED FOR THE GRISHAVERSE ADAPTATION!)

So I thought about this for a bit, and here are some of the books I’d love to see an adaptation for!

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

The Sound of Stars is a dystopian novel about a world that’s been taken over by an alien race called Ilori. The remaining humans are being held prisoner, waiting for a vaccine that will turn them into shells. In this world, a girl hoards books as her way of rebellion and one day she meets an Ilori who loves pop music. They connect through their love of the forbidden and their bond may change the world. I loved this book and think it would be an amazing Netflix show. The book is a standalone, but I think there is still so much of the world left to be explored that a tv show would work too.

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

Yes, I know this is a series with only one book out yet, so it would be difficult to already create a Netflix tv show AND YET I NEVER WANTED ANYTHING MORE! This would make such an awesome mystery, thriller, supernatural-type series (I’m thinking a Stranger Things-vibe, but a little less funny probably) Anyway, I need it. And the sequel!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I just need more Evelyn Hugo, okay? This powerhouse bombshell, force to be reckoned with, bisexual actress of Cuban heritage has not left my thoughts ever since I listened to the audiobook last year. Evelyn’s story would make an EPIC tv series and I NEED to see the story of her and the love of her life (and no, it’s not one of the seven husbands) play out on screen so I can relive it all over again.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I just honestly can’t believe this has not been adapted for TV or movie format yet. While I was listening to the audiobook, I was already so enraptured by the whimsical atmosphere and I already saw it playing out like a movie in my head. If they could visually do this justice on screen, it would be EPIC.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

There is enough material here for a great tv series. The fairytale retelling with a sci-fi twist would be amazing and would be a hit with the fans still missing Once Upon A Time.

Alice Oseman universe books

I think Alice Oseman is one of the authors that voices the YA generation best, and I think a show based on her stories would be a massive hit. It doesn’t have to be just one book, it could feature several of her stories and have overlapping storylines. I’m already in love just thinking of all the amazing representation we would see on screen.

Stalking Jack The Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco

I’m getting such iZombie/Bones vibes from this series about a girl studying forensic medicine in 1888 London. It would be a dark, atmospheric mystery series with a dash of romance and I would be addicted to it for sure! Let’s start discussing who we’d love to see cast as Thomas Cresswell, now please…

Jen Wilde universe books

I recently read Going Off Script, a story about a writer room’s intern who bands together with her crush to try and stop her boss from turning a beloved lesbian character straight. This was such a fun look into the portrayal of LGBT characters in the media and I feel like it would be a fun, meta tv-show. I could also totally see this story overlap with Jen Wilde’s other (equally great and equally diverse) novels. The characters already make cameos, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to mash the storyline together some more.

The Windy City Magic trilogy by Crystal Cestari

The Windy City Magic trilogy features Amber, born to a family of witches but without any witchy powers. Her power though? She can see someone’s true love by looking into their eyes. Cool right? Until she starts falling for someone – and it’s not herself she sees in his eyes. This is a fun fantasy romance adventure featuring witches, mermaids, vampires, faeries and all kinds of fun magical creatures. I think this would be a fun supernatural rom-com type series that would be perfect for binge-watching.

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Again, I don’t understand how this isn’t adapted to the big screen yet. It has parallel worlds, magic, enticing characters and the adventure of a lifetime. Also, Lila Bard.

Tell Me:
Would you like to see any of these as Netflix adaptation?
