Welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today I’d like to focus on one of my own weak spots when it comes to stories, and that is friendship. Because as much as I love a good romance, I think it’s equally important for a story to have great, epic friendships.

Great friendships can carry a story and warm the heart just as well, if not more so than a romance can. They are so important and usually books that feature friendships turn out to be some of my all time favorites. So that’s why today’s post features some of my favorite fictional BFF’s and friend groups. Let me know if you have any other recommendation for books featuring friendships!

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien:
Frodo and Samwise Gamgee

Sam and Frodo

This list wouldn’t be right without Frodo and Sam, the friendship to end all friendships <3

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater:
Blue and her Raven Boys

This quote says it all:

β€œBlue was perfectly aware that it was possible to have a friendship that wasn’t all-encompassing, that wasn’t blinding, deafening, maddening, quickening. It was just that now that she’d had this kind, she didn’t want another.”

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer:
The Lunar Crew

Cinder by Marissa Meyer Scarlet by Marissa Meyer Cress by Marissa Meyer Winter by Marissa Meyer

My favorite kind of friendship: the group of misfits coming together and forming their own family. The friendship between all these characters was my favorite aspect of The Lunar Chronicles.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo:
Kaz and his crew

six-of-crows-kevin-wada-nina six-of-crows-kevin-wada-kaz six-of-crows-kevin-wada-inej six-of-crows-kevin-wada-wylan six-of-crows-kevin-wada-jesper six-of-crows-kevin-wada-matthias

Group of misfits becoming a family: exhibit B.
I start crying just thinking about the Six of Crows group.

Vicious by V.E. Schwab: Victor, Mitch and Sydney

vicious-by-v-e-schwab

Group of misfits becoming a family: exhibit C.
I love this little dysfunctional family so damn much.

Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie: Tori and her three mages

Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie Dark Arts and a Daiquiri by Annette Marie GCS3 Two Witches and a Whiskey- AnnetteMarie GR

All Annette Marie series have these amazing friend groups, but I think my favorite so far is in her latest series, because the friendship Tori grows with the titular three mages is heartwarming and I love their banter.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: Dorian and Chaol, Manon and her Thirteen, Aelin and her court

kingdom of ash
art by Charlie Bowater

Sarah J. Maas is another one of those authors who knows how to write emotional friendships. The Throne of Glass series has so many to choose from, but my personal favorites are the Dorian-Chaol friendship and the bond between Manon and her Thirteen <3

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertali: Simon, Leah, Abby and Nick

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda is one of my all-time go-to feel-good books. And one of the reasons this book makes me so happy is the focus on friendship. It reminded me so much of my own high school friendships.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty:
Madeline, Celeste and Jane

biglittlelies

I fell head over heels in love with the friendship between Madeline, Celeste and Jane and how they are all there for eachother and have got eachother’s backs. I’d also highly recommend checking out the tv show, because the cast is amazing and really captured the essence of this friendship.

Running With Lions by Julian Winters: Sebastian, Willie, Mason & the rest of the Lions team

Running With Lions by Julian Winters

Our main character Sebastian is the definition of a Hufflepuff: he’s such a nice and loyal friend and cares so much about the guys on his soccer team. This book is filled with beautiful, but realistic friendships.

  1. I always like a solid and good friendship in a book! Much as I also love a good romance, friendships also add richness to a story. Plus, it makes me feel all nostalgic for those YA and teen movies I used to watch about besties. πŸ™‚

…and again, I spy “Six of Crows” on a list which reminds me: I still haven’t read this one!!

    1. Yes, you’re so right, friendships add so much richness to a story! And I hope you’ll love Six of Crows if you decide to pick it up πŸ™‚

  2. Frodo and Sam for sure! And the Big Little Lies girls- yes!!! Love them- especially Madeline. πŸ™‚

From what I’ve heard the Raven Boys crew is a great pick too!

    1. Madeline is the best, I love her πŸ™‚

  3. I don’t know why I didn’t think of the Lunar Chronicles. Such a perfect choice!

    1. The Lunar Chronicles crew is awesome indeed πŸ™‚

  4. Yes the Raven boys for sure. It is that I went with just sci-fi settings or I could have done a post on just them haha.

    1. Haha, I would definitely read a post just on The Raven Boys too πŸ˜‰

  5. Frodo and Sam and Blue and the Raven Boys are two of my faves! They didn’t make it onto my list though as there were just too many great friendships to choose from!

    1. It’s already great that we have so many amazing friendships to choose from!

  6. Frodo and Sam made my list this week. I just picked up Vicious and the Lunar Chronicles on Amazon’s Cyber Monday sale this year (I spent way too much on books this weekend, LOL).

    1. Frodo and Sam are really THE example of amazing friendships. Haha, hope you’ll enjoy Vicious and The Lunar Chronicles!

  7. Great list! I picked The Lunar Chronicles Crew as well! I just adore those books and I love when they are all together.

    1. The Lunar Chronicles crew owns my heart <3

  8. Great list! I love The Dregs so much, and The Lunar Chronicles crew. Three Mages and a Margarita looks so fun – I’ll have to check it out.

  9. Poinsettia says:

What a great list! Frodo and Sam are a great example, and I love the misfits in the Lunar Chronicles and Six of Crows! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday

    1. Thanks! Frodo and Sam are awesome indeed πŸ™‚

  10. This is such a great list! <3 Frodo and Sam, I just want to tear up everytime I think of them, I love them SO much <3 And the lunar chronicles gang, these raven boys and six of crows, ahhh completely agree with you about them too <3

    1. Frodo and Sam will always be my number one friendship, I love them so much <3

  11. YES! We need more books with strong friendships. I don’t like it when a character starts a romance and shoves all their friends aside. Vicious made my list, too. I love that book.

    1. Yes, exactly! We need more focus on friendship in book πŸ™‚

  12. So many great friendships in the Lunar Chronicles – I love Iko, that’s the kind of friend I would want!

    1. Iko is definitely an awesome friend to have πŸ™‚

  13. So many goodies! But, YAY! Big Little Lies. Sometimes I forget how much I love those ladies. Like, it didn’t cross my mind to add them for some reason despite how much I adore the dynamic. Thanks for sharing. (Seriously the rest of your picks are awesome, too.)

    1. There are so many great things about Big Little Lies that the friendship gets easily overlooked, but it was definitely one of the strong points of the book (and TV show) πŸ™‚

  14. Epic friendships are the best aren’t they? I mean, a lot of my favourite books/series showcase such friendships and families! TOG, ACOTAR, 6oC, HP, All the Tamora Pierce and obviously Annette Marie.

I’m reading The Raven Cycle next year. OKAY! And hopefully in December I’ll do Vicious.

    BEAUTIFUL post Lindsey!

    1. I can definitely never get enough of epic friendships! And I obviously urgently need to try Tamora Pierce, if you love her and she has epic friendships πŸ™‚
Hope you’ll love The Raven Cycle and Vicious!
