Welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s topic is all about the books I loved but will probably never re-read. Now, this was a real tough one for me as I’m more of a “I want to re-read all my favorite books and I’ll proclaim my good intentions forever but probably never re-read anyway” kind of girl. If I loved a book, I’ll automatically want to re-read. Even if I may never have the time or be in the right mood again, I’ll still want to re-read. But for the sake of this list, I dug deep and tried to be brutally honest with myself and came up with a few books I’ll probably never re-read. (but hey, never say never!):

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

I adored The Lord of the Rings, it’s one of my favorites. But it also took me ages to read and I’d have to admit I’d be more likely to marathon the movies again than to re-read.

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Though I loved these when I read them and I still love this world, I don’t think I’d re-read The Mortal Instruments. The first 3 books might just not be my thing anymore and the last 3 books were honestly a hassle to get through the first time. I’ll just stick to The Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices.

The Ruby Red trilogy by Kerstin Gier

Loved these when I first read them, but I just don’t think they’d still be my thing today. So I probably would not re-read.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

I loved the first book but it took me almost a month to finish. I don’t want to spend another month on a re-read when I could just watch the show.

The Darkest Minds trilogy by Alexandra Bracken

I don’t know, I loved these books but I just don’t feel like they require a re-read… I am excited for the movie though.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Same as The Darkest Minds. Loved this book, but I’m just not feeling the need for a re-read.

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

I honestly don’t think I can handle a re-read. The first read already broke me into so many pieces…

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

Same as All The Bright Places. I can’t spend another re-read ugly crying from beginning to end. I just can’t.

WHAT ARE SOME Books you loved but will probably not re-read?

  1. I’ve seen good reviews for “All the Bright Places,” but haven’t read the book. In the last year and a half, I read “Ruby Red,” and while I did enjoy it, it’s not a favorite book, so re-reading that one is probably not on my re-read bucket list. 🙂

    1. I’d definitely recommend All The Bright Places, but it’s a tough emotional book, definitely not one to-re-read regularly. I felt the same way about Ruby Red 🙂

  2. I want to read THE DARKEST MINDS before I watch the movie. I’ve heard good things! I didn’t get emotional during IF I STAY (which may or may not make me a robot), but I’ve heard WHERE SHE WENT is even better, so I’ve been wanting to read it.

    Great list!!!

    1. The Darkest Minds is definitely a great series! Just not a re-read book for me 🙂 I did LOVE Where She Went, possibly even more than If I Stay, so I do recommend 🙂

  3. I just saw Lord of the Rings on another list, and… I have to definitely be in a right frame of mind to tackle those. They’re not casual re- reads by any stretch! Outlander seems like it would be like Game of Thrones- the books are so long it’d take FOREVER to re- read!

    1. Yes exactly! Maybe one day I’ll re-read Lord of the Rings, but probably not that soon. Same with Outlander indeed 🙂

  4. I don’t think that I’d re-read If I Stay either. It’s definitely an emotional one. Great list! 🙂

    1. I love the emotional books, but not to re-read regularly 🙂

  5. I don’t think I’ll ever reread LOTR either. It was a huge trek of a book.

    1. Yes it definitely was!

  6. We share Uprooted and LOTR today. I loved Uprooted but I just can’t see myself rereading it and a reread of LOTR would take forever. Part of me wants to reread The Hobbit because I can’t remember that much from it and the movies differ in places, but meh.

    1. Yes, I feel the same way about Uprooted and LOTR. I actually never finished The Hobbit, so maybe it’s worth a try again, but not right away 🙂

  7. Same about Outlander, it took me forever to finish and it’s not an easy book to read either, even though I enjoyed it I don’t see myself ever going back to re-read.

    1. Yes, exactly! I figure I’m better off rewatching the TV show…

  8. I’ve been wanting to reread Outlander, but you’re right, the books are such a big commitment because they are so long!

    1. Yes, I enjoyed the read but it took forever to get through 🙂

  9. As much as I loved the LOTR books, I couldn’t ever re-read them either. That kind of fantasy novel is heavy the first time around. A second or third go might drag me under. The Hobbit though, that’s another story. 🙂

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    1. Yes, exactly! I actually never finished The Hobbit, so maybe it’s worth a try again, just not right away ?

  10. I actually haven’t read any of these! I need to remember to borrow The Darkest Minds from my friend before the movie comes out.

    1. I hope you’ll enjoy The Darkest Minds! And that the movie will live up to our expectations 🙂

  11. I really enjoyed If I Stay, but yeah, I doubt I’d ever re-read it. I am still curious about All the Bright Places. I haven’t read that one yet.

    1. If I Stay was so good, but I just couldn’t handle another sobfest. All The Bright Places was so good, but won’t be re-reading for the same reason 🙂

  12. Oh yeah, totally agree with you on All the Bright Places. I loved it but I don’t think my heart could take it a second time.

    1. Exactly! I’m still recovering from the first read 🙂
