160818 Ruler of Books Tag

Welcome to a new Tag Thursday!

Today I would like to do the Ruler of Books Tag, which was created by Ariel Bisset (watch her original video here)

Why this tag? Because I believe I would be a great and fair ruler of my own little book kingdom. I would be a great queen, I’m sure! Don’t believe me? Come and see how my book kingdom queendom would look like!

1/ What book would you make everyone read?

Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat Prince's Gambit by C.S. Pacat Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat

Well, this could change every few months, but right now I would definitely make everyone read the Captive Prince series by C.S. Pacat. Because this series is pretty much my favorite read of this year so far and it is absolutely amazing and everyone should read it. It’s a beautiful character-driven M/M romance set in a brutal fantasy world based on the Roman/Greek Empire. It’s pretty brutal and graphic so it’s not for younger readers, but the characters and their growth and relationship are really what makes this series so freaking great!

2/ What would you abolish in book construction?

Ah, I have a few pet peeves in book construction that I would love to have abolished:

  • Stickers on book covers.
No. Just no. Do you have any idea how much trouble it is to take these things off? It is hell! Hell, I tell you!
  • Movie adaptations covers.
I love book-to-movie adaptations, but I don’t need my book to change cover. I prefer the original cover, thank you very much.
  • “For fans of The Hunger Games/Twilight/Game of Thrones/Harry Potter”
Ugh. Every dystopian novel gets marketed as the next Hunger Games and every paranormal romance gets marketed as the new Twilight. Stop riding along on the success of some of these massively hyped books and give people a chance to discover books for themselves.

3/ What author would you commission to write you any book?

I would commision Leigh Bardugo to write me a spin-off to her Grisha series, featuring Nikolai Lantsov: Pirate King, Too-Clever Fox, charming one-liner genius.

Because I NEEEED this book so much. It may not be coming in real-life, but if I was ruler of my book kingdom, I’d make this a top level priority.

4/ What book would you demote to the library basement to make room for new books?

First of all, I would feel really bad about demoting any book to the library basement. Just because I don’t like it, doesn’t mean that someone else might not totally fall in love with it.

But I would choose the Marked series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. It was a fun little guilty pleasure series, but it just became too long with nothing really happening. Plus, it would leave a lot of space for more books so it’s all for the greater good of the kingdom.

5/ What cover artist would you commission to make a mural?

There are so many beautiful covers out there, it’s hard to choose! I love the covers to Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series so if I had to choose, it would be this one.

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson

6/ What characters face would you put on a coin?

Hermione Granger. Because we should all aspire to be a bit more like Hermione Granger. She would be the perfect inspiration to put on our coins.

7/ What book would you award the β€œRuler of Books” 2016 Prize to?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. Other than the Captive Prince series, this has been my favorite read of the year so far. I re-read it immediately after finishing and gave me a major book hangover. If that doesn’t deserve the “Ruler of Books” 2016 Prize, I don’t know what does!

this is the best

I tag you! How would your book kingdom look like?

  1. I really need to read Captive Prince!! I keep meaning to and then life gets in the way, haha. I’m super curious because I’ve heard so many mixed things!! And yess at a Hermione coin!!

    1. Ah that pesky thing called life! I totally know how you feel πŸ™‚ I think it’s indeed a series that you either love or hate. It’s definitely not perfect, but I’m firmly in the love camp and I do hope you’ll enjoy it too!

  2. Your book queendom looks amazing! I’ll have to do this tag later just because it looks like so much fun! Happy reading! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks! Would love to see your answers when you do this tag! πŸ™‚

  3. For fans of The Hunger Games… UGH YES. No more of this please. I get that this is a marketing strategy to attract readers, but it annoys me so much because most of the time, the books have absolutely nothing in common. And yes for Hermione Granger. I love her so much <3
    GReat answers! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks!
I know, it’s like they just use the title of the most popular book of the moment and put it in the phrase ‘For fans of…’
Hermione is great, if she was a real person I would totally vote for her because I would trust her with anything πŸ™‚
