Mid Year Book Freakout Tag {Tag Thursday}

BookTag

Since we are (almost) at the middle of the year, I thought it would be fun to take a step back and look at what 2016 has been like so far and also to take a look at what’s still to come.

At this moment I have read 34 books of my total goal of 70 books to be read this year. I’ve discovered some new favorite books, authors and characters. I’ve read some books that made me cry and I’ve read some books that made me ridiculously happy. And I’m still expecting so much more from the rest of 2016. So this is the perfect time to do the Mid Year Book Freakout Tag!

This tag is created by ReadLikeWildfire and Ely Jayne

As you guys probably already have guessed, I am terrible at making choices, so most questions will have several answers. I tried to limit it to one I didn’t try to limit it at all because that is IMPOSSIBLE! I suggest we just roll with it 🙂

Let’s get started!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2016.

Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugho

  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
  • The Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Pacat
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I could rave on and on about each of these gorgeous books forever and ever.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas Prince's Gambit by C.S. Pacat Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat

  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
  • Prince’s Gambit and King’s Rising by C.S. Pacat

I repeat: Raving. All day. No problem.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

I swear these are the next books I’ll read after finishing Tome Topple!

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

  • Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
  • Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

Aargh, the excitement! It’s killing me! (in the best possible way)

5. Biggest disappointment.

Starflight by Melissa Landers

  • Starflight by Melissa Landers

This was not a bad book at all, my expectations were just too high and it unfortunately did not reach them.

6. Biggest surprise.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

  • Cinder by Marissa Meyer
  • Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

I was a bit hesitant about Cinder but ended up falling in love with the entire Lunar Chronicles. And I was not sure about Lady Midnight because I liked TID but did not like TMI. I shouldn’t have worried, this book was AMAZING!

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat Cinder by Marissa Meyer

  • C.S. Pacat (Captive Prince Trilogy)
  • Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles)

Yes, I will happily read anything these ladies decide to write in the future. Books, bonus chapters, novellas, essays, grocery lists, … you name it!

8. Newest fictional crush.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugho

  • Rhysand from A Court of Mist and Fury
  • Julian and Mark  from Lady Midnight
  • Kaz from Six of Crows

*swoon*

9. Newest favourite character.

Cress by Marissa Meyer Simon vs the Home Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat

  • Carswell Thorne from the Lunar Chronicles
  • Simon from Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda
  • Laurent from the Captive Prince trilogy

*swoon*

10. Book that made you cry.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

  • Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
  • All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Why do I like books that make me cry so much? Is it weird?

11. Book that made you happy.

The Martian by Andy Weir Simon vs the Home Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe

  • The Martian by Andy Weir
  • Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

These books either made me laugh out loud or gave me fuzzy happy feelings. Either works for me!

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

The Martian Movie The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Haven’t seen that many yet actually! I only saw The 5th Wave and The Martian and really liked both.

I also have very high hopes for Me Before You, but I haven’t actually seen it yet so I can’t say whether it met my expectations.

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year.

I loved both of these books so much, it just felt good to write these reviews.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

  • Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Look at that cover, it is gorgous! (And so is the story by the way)

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

My entire TBR pile I’m currently buried under.

Gotta, gotta, gotta read ’em all! TBR! (Sorry, former poké-nerd here. Well, maybe not that former)

I tag you! What are some of your favorites this year so far? And your most anticipated reads for the rest of the year?

  1. Ooh I love this tag! I’m definitely going to do this one.

You listed so many amazing books too! I’m hoping to get Ari and Dante, Simon and Six of Crows really soon. It’s also good to hear you enjoyed Cinder because that’s another one I really need to read. The Martian was such an amazing movie and haha I totally relate to your answer for the last question ?

    1. Great, I’ll for sure check out your answers when you do this tag! I hope you’ll enjoy Ari and Dante, Simon and Six of Crows, they have really been some of the highlights of my reading year so far 🙂 And Cinder of course, I was hesitant about it at first, but I really fell in love with this series and all its characters!

  2. Yes. Six of Crows. I loved it when I read it last year, so I am also really looking forward to Crooked Kingdom.

    1. I didn’t think I could like Six of Crows more than the Grisha trilogy (which I LOVED), but it really surpassed it so I can’t wait to see what Crooked Kingdom will bring!
