Book-To-Movie Adaptations: My Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda Wishlist

170316 Simon Wishlist

Let’s start with a confession: I love book-to-movie adaptations. I really do.

To be clear: I do usually still prefer the books. They just allow me to immerse myself into the world better and fall in love with the characters more. Most movies lack the time for me to really reach the same level of investment. They have to cut certain scenes, dialogues or even characters (even though I believe most book lovers would gladly watch a 4-hour adaptation containing every single scene of the book) and while it can be done and be done well, it can hardly ever hold a candle to the book.

Nevertheless, I can still really enjoy a good book-to-movie adaptation. I’m ok with them changing or cutting certain things as long as they stay true to the spirit of the book. I just love that this story that I love and adore gets brought to life in a different way. I love how it is able to reach more people and make other people fall in love with the characters that already have a place in my heart. I love getting excited for it, keeping an eye out for casting news, watching the trailer a hundred times over again and finally getting to actually see the movie on the big screen with a giddy heart.

But before I finally see the movie, I also love speculating about it. And that’s the reason for this post, which may eventually become a series.

Today I’d love to talk about the upcoming Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda movie.

Simon is one of my all-time favorite books: it’s cute, adorable, real, diverse and relatable. So of course I am super excited about the movie adaptation, which has recently started filming. There’s already quite a bit of information on casting and such, which can be found on Becky Albertalli’s tumblr.

So here is pretty much my wishlist for the movie, ranging from the general and important to the specific but smaller details:

Warning: May contain some spoilers for the book. Nothing on the identity of Blue though.

Everything Everything Casting, More Sarah and Becky, Divergent Shocker and more! {Bookish Bites}

Bookish Bites

Hi guys, and welcome to my first ever ‘Bookish Bites’!

I wanted to try this kind of post because there is sometimes so much bookish news out there that I’d love to talk about. New books being announced, movie or tv show adaptation news, cover reveals, title reveals, you name it!

And while I do flail about them on Facebook or Twitter, I don’t really talk a lot about it here. But I still wanted to do that! So I though it might be nice to recap some of these in one big post every few weeks. What do you think, would that be nice to talk about, or would it be old news for you by then? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Anyway, here’s some of the latest news in book world!

Favorite Book To Movie Adaptations {Top Ten Tuesday}

Favorite Movie Adaptations

As hosted by The Broke & The Bookish

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic was a freebie. And I was being a good little blogger and had planned my topic ahead: I would talk about some of my favorite LGBTQ books. And then… I forgot and already posted that topic last week. So when I realised my little error I had to come up with a new subject pretty quickly. And the decision has been made to do…

My favorite book to movie adaptations!

I love reading and books, but I also LOOOVE movies and tv. Any kind of storytelling actually. And while the saying is that the book is always better than the movie – and I do agree with that 99% of the time – I am also not that huge a critic on book to movie adaptations. Sure, they often miss things that are crucial to the story, or they get the casting wrong or they don’t make the movie a 4 hour spectacle with every little detail in it. But, if the overall concept is good and I can enjoy the movie as a whole… I’m happy with it.

So here are some of the book to movie adaptations I enjoyed THE MOST:

Tag Thursday: The Mortal Instruments Tag

shadowhunterscovers_500

Today’s Tag Thursday is all about the world of the Shadowhunters. Why? First of all, because Lady Midnight was just released, the first part in a brand new book series by Cassandra Clare that is set in the shadowhunter world. I’m currently reading it and so excited to get back into this world! Also, Shadowhunters (the tv show) has been officially renewed for season 2, woohoo!

Movie Trailer: Me Before You

Me Before You Movie PosterThe movie poster and trailer for Me Before You have finally been released and I am super excited!

Me Before You is a movie based on the 2012 novel written by Jojo Moyes. The film will star Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games), Matthew Lewis (Harry Potter), Jenna Coleman and Charles Dance.

Will Traynor used to enjoy life to the fullest, until an accident made him a quadriplegic and took away his desire to live. Lou Clark just lost her job and is forced to take a new job: taking care of Will. This arrangement will eventually change both their lives forever.

This was the first book I read this year and I absolutely loved it. (See my review here) It was a beautiful story and from what we can see in the trailer I think the movie will do it every bit of justice it deserves! Emilia and Sam look absolutely perfect as Lou and Will and the scenes we see in the trailer look just as I pictured them while reading the book. Now we only have to wait some more until June 3rd!

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday will mix two of my favorites: books and movies! 2016 will be a great year for movies in general, but specifically also for book-to-movie adaptations, which seem to be growing in popularity each year. This is a list of my most anticipated book-to-movie adaptations coming out in 2016. (in order of release date):

TV Review: Shadowhunters Premiere

Shadowhunters

This week was the long-awaited premiere of the Shadowhunters TV-Show premiere. And it was long-awaited especially for fans of the The Mortal Instruments book series by Cassandra Clare on which the show is based. Of course, book fans already got a movie based on the books as well, but since that will not be continued I think all fans are just relieved that the story gets another chance in TV format.  (which I think is a better format for this series than a movie anyway)

Honestly, I did not have very high expectations for the show, though I did have high hopes. And the premiere did exceed my expectations quite a bit. Though it was a bit cringe-worthy at times, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next episodes. There are obviously some changes that were made from the original books, but I actually think these are all for the best and they make me eager to see where the show will go.

Overall rating for the premiere episode: 3,5 stars – I liked it.
