Ten Must-Have Items For My Dream Reading Nook

Ten Must-Have Items For My Dream Reading Nook

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s topic was actually ‘Bookish merch I’d like to own’ but I wasn’t feeling super inspired by that because I’m not really a merch kind of girl. Sure, I love it the creativity in all the bookish merch and I would never say no to a nice bookish mug or tote bag or notebook. Other than that, my idea is that less is more.

But there is one bookish thing I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE and that is.. my own READING NOOK. So I’m adjusting the topic a bit to give you: Ten must-have items for my dream reading nook!

Let’s go!

Comfy Chair

The number one item to have would obviously be a comfy chair right? Preferably one that is SUPER comfy, allows for several reading positions and where you can stretch your legs for optimum comfort if required.

Pillow

We also obviously need a pillow. Any pillow would do, but there are so many fun bookish ones out there, that it would be a shame to not have a bookish pillow for the reading nook.

Blanket

I’m all about the comfort and there can be no complete comfort without a nice, warm, fluffy blanket! I’d love to snuggle up under it one cold, dreary days and nights and just read to my heart’s content (or until I inevitably fall asleep because the blanket is a little too comfy…)

Book Trolley

I personally don’t have the room to have my full bookcases in the living room or near any possible reading nook, but that’s okay because book trolleys exist and they are awesome! I could have a nice, small selection (who am I kidding) of books present on the trolley, close to my reading chair. If it’s one like in the image above, I could use it as a sort of side table as well and store some other items on it, but if not, I’ll need the next thing on this list!

Side Table

I’d want a place to be able to store some items so I would not be required to leave my cozy space too soon. Like snacks, drinks and the like – the essentials! And of course the below…

Reading Lamp

For those dark days or evenings when I want to read, we’ll need some light! Bonus points if it adjustable and can dim and extra bonus points if it has one of those cool filters that are easier on the eyes (because I’d like to keep my eyes healthy so I can read A LONG TIME still to come)

Scented Candle

Nothing is more cozy, comforting and relaxing than a nice scented candle burning when it’s reading time!

Cup of Tea

Of course our drink of choice would need to be near! Mine is a warm cup of tea (I’m currently obsessed with Jasmine-Lychee tea). Oh, bonus points if there is a nice bookish mug to drink it from!

Reading Buddy

Reading is always nicer with a buddy! My dog is more the “play-with-the-ball-in-the-garden” type than the “cuddle-up-and-read” type, but I’m not picky – if she’s near I’m happy!

And of course…

Books

What’s the point of a reading nook without any books, right?

I love your twist on this week’s topic. I have a bay window in my living room that I’m hoping to turn into a reading nook this summer.

    1. Thanks! Oh, a bay window sounds absolutely perfect for a reading nook!

    1. A comfy chair is definitely a must-have item!

  4. I love all of these things! Sounds like you would have the perfect reading space!

    1. Thanks! One day I’m sure I’ll get to create it for real *fingers crossed*

  5. I wasn’t feeling this topic so much either but I LOVE your twist! I would totes want all of these in my cosy reading nook—most important for me, aside from all the books of course, would be a super cosy reading chair! Oh, one that I could just sink into and never emerge from pls 😂 Great post!

    1. A super comfy reading chair is definitely the number one necessity! The best one would indeed be one we’d never ever want to leave again 😀

  6. Your dog is adorable!

    1. Thank you, she is super cute 🙂

      1. 🙂

  7. This. I would love a reading nook. A good reading lamp is such a nice thing. Warm light… and tea. And a reading buddy. I don’t have a dog but I do have a cat who likes to sit on my lap when I read, so I’m good that way. 🙂

The right chair goes a long way 🙂

    1. Here’s hoping we’ll both get to create our own reading nooks one day! Oh, a cat seems like an even better reading buddy than a dog – if they don’t sit on the book at least 🙂

  8. I do have a reading “nook” that has most of your items 😉 It has a love seat, comfy blanket (that I won!), a reading cart, pillows, a coffee table, a bookcase, a heating pad (for when my back aches), post-it notes to mark passages in books I don’t own, my blogger notebook (homemade), colorful pens, and of course, plenty of books.

    1. Oh your reading nook sounds absolutely perfect! I don’t think I could ever leave a reading nook like that 🙂 Also, love that you have a homemade blogger notebook!

      1. Thanks Lindsey, it’s all a work in progress. I love the blogger notebook I can see all my monthly posts at a glance 😉

I’d love to have such a reading nook Lindsey!

    1. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for it, Sophie! 🙂

  10. Poinsettia says:

Yes to all of these items!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    1. Thanks!

  11. I’d love to read in your reading nook. 🙂 Although, your reading nook is very similar to mine except I have a couple of cats as my buddies instead of a Dalmatian. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    1. That sounds like an amazing reading nook too!

  12. Stephanie - Bookfever says:

One day I shall I have a book trolley! And I love your dog so much. My dog Gigi needs to be by my side whenever I read at home. It’s just no good otherwise 🥰

    1. Fingers crossed we’ll both get our dream reading trolley someday! Oh, I can imagine Gigi is an adorable reading buddy – and I’m guessing super cuddly too!

  13. Your dog is so sweet! I fear my cat would not be a very helpful reading buddy, he’d probably be clambering all over my book the same way he climbs on my laptop when I’m trying to work. I’ve always wanted a window seat to read on, I read a book when I was younger with a character who had one of those and it just sounded so cosy.
    My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2022/04/19/top-ten-tuesday-364/

    1. Haha your cat indeed does not seem like a helpful reading buddy 🙂 My dog’s a great reading buddy when she’s sleepy, but when she’s up it’s all pouty face to go outside and play and then I can’t resist so that’s not helpful to my reading either 🙂 Oh, a window seat does indeed sound heavenly!

      1. No, he’s not really a very helpful anything buddy, he wants all the attention to be on him! Ha ha my dog also had impossible to resist face, classic Labrador eyes which always looked like you’d personally hurt him if you didn’t do exactly what he wanted. Yes, I think so, hopefully one day I will have it!

  14. I think you should have a trolley AND a small bookcase. Why settle for one when both a perfection.

    1. Haha, you are so correct! They’d have totally different uses, so that totally justifies having both 😀

  15. Marianne Maurer says:

Your reading nook looks so inviting, you must be careful not to be inundates by visits from other readers. LOL I love how you concentrated on one corner in a house or apartment that everyone of us dreams of.

Thanks for visiting my TTT this week where I posted about the bookish merchandise I already own because there are so many bookish items I’d love.

    1. Haha as long as I get the chair, then other readers could always visit 🙂

  16. That reading lamp looks lovely. Happy reading! My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/bookish-merchandise-id-love-to-own/

    1. Thanks!

  17. Great twist on this week’s topic and I think all of these items together would make for a lovely reading nook.

    1. Thanks! I got the ideas, now only the execution (and the space haha)

  18. Lauren Becker says:

Ahhh coziness. I would love to have my own reading nook. Maybe one day!

    Lauren @ http://www.shootingstarsmag.net

    1. I’ll keep my fingers crossed we’ll both get that dream reading nook one day!

  19. If I ever create a good reading nook, a comfy chair will be a must! Also, YAY for a chunky or comfy blanket too. We’d need that. 🙂 Thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland this week.

    1. Comfy chairs are indeed a must!

  20. Oooh all these would make a great reading nook! But a comfy chair and a reading buddy are a must <3

    1. Thanks! Haha yeah they are indeed both the most crucial 🙂
