Top Ten Tuesday

2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To (Yet!)

20220118 2021 Releases I Was excited To Read But Didn't Get To

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s the yearly post of shame as I take a look at the books I didn’t read in 2021. Because, even though I’ve been exclaiming all year long about how excited I was about these books and included them in my ‘most anticipated reads’ lists and ‘new releases I’m most excited about’ posts… I still didn’t read them. BUT I STILL WANT TO! Life (and other shiny books and also reading slumps) just get in the way sometimes. But all of these are still on my TBR, so tell me, have you read any of these yet and are there any I really should prioritise?

Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales

This is a YA contemporary about a bisexual girl who gives anonymous love advice to her classmates and then gets hired by the hot guy to help him get his ex back. Sounds so good, right?

Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle

A woman inheriting an old house from her great aunt and the gorgeous yet grouchy groundskeeper who has different visions for the property’s future sounds like a match made in bookish romance heaven to me.

Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne

I love The Hating Game so much that any new Sally Thorne is an auto-read. And this story about a retirement home manager who hires a muscular, tattooed man as an assistant to two old women sounds like it could be just as good.

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I’m still behind on the Taylor Jenkins Reid train, but I loved both The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six, so I’m super excited about her next book, Malibu Rising. It sounds like a tense read filled with family secrets and I’m here for it.

A Lot Like Adios by Alexis Daria

I loved Alexis Daria’s You Had Me At Hola, so I am of course super excited for her newest release! Plus the author said this new book has fake dating, fanfic, forced proximity, so what more could I really want?

Defy The Night by Brigid Kemmerer

A new fantasy Robin Hood retelling by Brigid Kemmerer with a female “Robin”, a kingdom with a mysterious sickness and a ruthless prince? It just sounds amazing and we will just not mention the fact that I still need to finish her other fantasy series okay?

Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson

This book is described by the author herself as “medieval Venom starring a nun and a ghost. It’s about a girl training to be a nun who awakens an ancient spirit bound to a saint’s relic, and becomes a Joan of Arc type figure as she wields its power to battle the undead.” And I am here just like SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Dark Rise by C.S Pacat

Honestly, I’m not even sure what this is about, but I love C.S. Pacat’s Captive Prince series AND her Fence comics so much that I’m certain I will love this new m/m fantasy as well!

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

An adult rom-com featuring a witch who discovers a bad breakup ritual she did nine years ago might have actually worked, when her ex-boyfriend returns to town and things go haywire. I mean, this already sounds good, but then the author described it as Hocus Pocus, but adult so HI, I’M IN!!!

All The Feels by Olivia Dade

Ever since I read Spoiler Alert, which was a wonderful rom-com, I’ve been highly anticipating Alex and Lauren’s book. And now the cover and blurb are here and I’m even more excited! ADHD rep + Body positivity + Fanfiction + Hate to love = I need it now!

A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske

I’ve seen this book described as featuring: A secret society of magicians in Edwardian London + part cute/steamy romance, part historical fantasy romp + a librarian/jock pairing + magical houses and all I know is I’M IN!

I read Perfect on Paper and Second First Impressions last year. I thought they were both okay, not favorites but not horrible either. I think I gave them both a 3.5 out of 5.

    1. I haven’t read any of Sarah’s books yet, but they do sound interesting. Alexis’s covers are indeed so pretty!
