Technical Difficulties (I Need Your Help With My Commenting Issues Please)

Hi everyone! I come to you today with a not-so-fun-but-necessary-and-overdue post.

I’m having some technical difficulties.

Or to be more specific, my blog is experiencing technical difficulties. Over the past two months, I’ve noticed my comments going down. Which could be due to several reasons of course, but I’ve also had 4-5 blogger friends kindly letting me know on social media that they’ve been having issues commenting on my blog. Apparently, their comments are not coming through. They just hit post and then the comment disappears instead of appearing directly on my site, as it should. These comments are lost to me, since I don’t receive a notification about them, nor do they end up in my spam.

So if you have been commenting on my blog but haven’t received a comment back, I’m sorry! That means your comments probably haven’t been coming through. The problem is that I have no way of knowing whether you commented or not and I sincerely apologize for my lack of response and interaction!

What makes it complicated is that I do still get comments from other bloggers without problem. And some people with commenting issues only have the issue sometimes, not all the time.

In the beginning, I thought this was because I hadn’t updated my WordPress in a while. So I did that. But I still had problems.

So I updated my PHP. Still problems.

Next, I updated my plugins, researched some more and deactivated CommentLuv, which apparently could cause issues. Still problems.

Next, I switched from the standard WordPress comments to Jetpack comments. Still problems.

I don’t know where the problem lies. It could be my theme. It could be my other plugins. It could be some other technical stuff. So I will need to test some more.

Over the next few weeks, I will be testing some of this. I’ll switch my theme. I’ll turn off my plugins and switch them back on one by one to see if I can locate the problem.

So first of all, my apologies for any weird things going on with my blog in the next few weeks due to these tests.

And secondly, I’m kindly asking for your help. Please, when you comment, check if it comes through or not. If you don’t see your comment coming up, please let me know through Twitter @LindseyHabets or Instagram @lindsey_habets.

Because I can test all I want, but I can’t know if it worked or not if you don’t keep me posted. And that would just keep me running in circles for weeks on end, testing without knowing if what I’m doing has any effect. I know this is a hassle, and I’m sorry to ask this of you all, but it would really, really help me out a lot! I love blogging and interacting with the community, and not being able to fix this is stressing me out and making me feel like a terrible blogger 🙁

So of course, if you have any experience with this kind of problem and know what could be the cause, you’d be my hero and I’d owe you tons of cookies and cake if you could help me out 🙂

My apologies for the inconvenience and here’s hoping things’ll be fixed soon!

    1. Ah I’m sorry you’re having some glitches too! It especially sucks if you don’t even know what’s the problem or how to fix it…

  4. I hope you get your comment issues sorted out soon. I’ll let you know if my comments don’t appear in the future. I’ve left some in the past that I had assumed your site had set to be manually approved. But maybe they never showed up at all?!

    1. Thanks for letting me know Lydia! I’m still having issues and trying different things and hope to have it figured out soon.
