The Extremely Simple & Very Predictable Reasons Why I Picked Up These Recent Books {Top Ten Tuesday}

20200407 Reasons Why I Picked Up These Books

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today is all about WHY we pick up certain books. And honestly, I could say because someone I trust recommended it to me or because I read the blurb and it sounds nice or because of a pretty cover. But mostly, the reason why is VERY SIMPLE and can be boiled down to a few words. So I checked a few of the most recent books I read and specified the exact reason or wording why I decided to pick them up. And turns out, I’m a simple woman with simple, predictable tastes. (and what-do-you-know, enemies-to-lovers is a pretty recurrent theme. Nobody saw that coming.)

  1. Just got Ninth House on audible. Looking forward to hearing it.

    1. I hope you’ll enjoy Ninth House, I listened to it on AUdible as well and loved it ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Enemies to lovers or simply an author I love is enough for me to pick up a book too. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. I definitely don’t need much more convincing than that, haha ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Dragons. I always want dragons. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I do really need to read Of Curses and Kisses! I bought the book for that reason too.

    1. Dragons, for sure!
I just started Of Curses and Kisses, hope it’ll live up to both our expectations ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I read Ninth House last year, and we definitely picked it up for the same reason! It’s not my favourite of her books, but I’m still looking forward to Book 2. I haven’t actually read Crescent City yet, I need to get the audio because there’s no way I’m making it through 800 odd pages of a physical book-Kingdom of Ash almost killed me and I had to switch to audio halfway through!

    1. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the Grishaverse books, but I also really loved Ninth House and am also looking forward to the sequel. I hope you’ll love Crescent City!

  5. Yeah, Aurora Rising does sound really good.

  8. Enemies to lovers is definitely a trend here ๐Ÿ˜€ I love this idea! I don’t know if I could say in a couple of words why I picked up certain books. Or maybe I could, but all be the same “hype” or “pretty cover”. Lol
    Great post!

    1. Haha it’s definitely a trend! Oh, hype and pretty cover are definitely also very valid reasons to pick up a book ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Aurora Rising definitely sounds good, especially after liking what those authors did with the Illuminae series. And I’ve had the Annette Marie books rec’d a bunch of times too- they sound fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yes, Aurora Rising is definitely very fun! And I need to finish the Illuminae series URGENTLY haha ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I suppose in many ways my tastes are quite simple. I read a book because it intrigues me. If I donโ€™t love the work after a few pages Iโ€™m probably never going to love it. Great list!
    Hereโ€™s my TTT https://bookwormsanonymous.blog/2020/04/07/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-bought-because-i-loved-the-cover/

    1. So true! Though I usually have trouble starting a book as it usually takes me a bit to warm up to it, so I usually give it at least 50% – if I don’t love it by then, then it’s indeed not gonna happen anymore either ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I do love a good enemies to lovers story. I’m reading Only Mostly Devastated right now, and I’d like to check out Tweet Cute!

    1. Enemies to lovers can never do wrong haha ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you’re enjoying Only Mostly Devastated, hope you’ll love Tweet Cute too!

  13. I picked up Aurora Rising for the same reason! And I loved it <3
