September 2019: The Month Of Witches, Demons and Dreamcatcher Songs {Monthly Wrap Up}

September wrap up

Hi everybody, and welcome to my September wrap up!

Even though my September has been super busy and I’ve been an exhausted mess for weeks, I still managed to read 6 books. I can only thank audiobooks and the fact that now that the holidays are over, I’m once again stuck in traffic for almost 2 hours a day. Just me, myself and my audiobook πŸ™‚ Oh, and not one, but TWO ARCS FROM MY FAVORITE AUTHOR. So you see, not all that bad! Plus, we have the OFFICIAL START OF FALL, MY FAVORITE SEASON WOOP!

Read on to see what I’ve read, listened to and watched this month.

What I Read

The Best Kind of Magic by Crystal Cestari

The Sweetest Kind of Fate by Crystal Cestari

The Fairest Kind of Love

The Windy City Magic trilogy by Crystal Cestari

I’ve been pretty much into romance a lot lately and I wanted to get back into fantasy, but kind of like an easy transition with a light fantasy romance. And the Windy City magic trilogy sounded just PERFECT for the job. It’s a series about Amber, who comes from a long line of witches. Except, she’s not a witch. Her magical power is matchmaking. Whenever she looks into someone’s eyes, she can see their match. Their one true love. She’s okay with this and happily matchmakes people, until one day Charlie comes to ask for her help. While they’re out having adventures and trying to solve mysteries, Amber finds herself falling hard for Charlie. Only problem: she’s not his match. What to do? I listened to this series on audiobook and highly enjoyed them. I loved Amber’s sassiness, I loved her relationship with her best friend Amani, and I loved all the romance because we all know I’m a sucker for romance. Only downsides for me were the sometimes lacking worldbuilding and the fact that books two and three seemed to drag a bit. But highly recommend overall for anyone looking for u magical and romantic witchy read.

Overall Series Rating: 3,5 stars

Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie

The Alchemist and an Amaretto by Annette Marie

Taming Demons for Beginners

I was lucky enough to be able to read and review this ARC of Annette Marie’s newest book and spin-off to The Guild Codex: Spellbound series. I dove into Taming Demons For Beginners with a lot of excitement, but also some hesitations. But frankly, all those hesitations flew out the door by the end of the first chapter. In fact, I adored this book so much, I THINK this series may just become my favorite Annette Marie series yet (okay second favorite, because Red Winter will be verrry tough to knock down the all-time favorite spot). It has intriguing and relatable characters, amazing worldbuilding and lots of fun banter. Overall, I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book. Taming Demons for Beginners is dark and creepy, yet fun and hopeful at the same time. It’s a compelling tale of two underdogs from enemy worlds forming an unlikely partnership through curiosity and cookies. Not to be missed!

Well Met by Jenn DeLuca

Okay, so maybe my romance binge isn’t completely over yet, because I just couldn’t resist this fun rom-com by Jenn DeLuca. I mean, it’s an enemies-to-lovers romance set at a Renaissance Fair. A RENAISSANCE FAIR!! I listened to this one on audio and adored it so much. The story’s about Emily, who’s in a bit of a life slump as her boyfriend left her and she’s out of a job and a home. When she temporarily moves in with her sister to take care of her while she’s recovering from a car accident, she gets roped into volunteering at the Renaissance Fair with her niece. There she meets Simon, who she immediately dubs the RenFaire killjoy and the dislike seems to be mutual. But in costume as pirate and tavern wench, their chemistry is undeniable. Soon Emily find herself enjoying the fair, Simon and this small town and its inhabitants and wondering if maybe this can be more than just a stop on the road to somewhere else…

Rating: 4 stars

The Alchemist and an Amaretto by Annette Marie

Wait, TWO Annette Marie books in one month? Why yes, the lady is an actual superstar with the rate in which she writes and yet I’ve never once been let down by the quality, so BRING IT ON!! I just finished the ARC for the fifth book in the Guild Codex: Spellbound series and I love this series more and more with each book I read. I even re-read Demon Magic and a Martini before this and nope, I’m never getting sick of these characters and their adventures. I love Tori and the three mages soo much and I’m only getting more invested in their stories.

What I Listened To

Honestly, this month was like 80% Dreamcatcher. I’ve fallen in love with this k-pop/k-rock girl group and their dark concept and had to hold back to not bombard you with all their videos so I just chose two πŸ™‚ Plus some other songs I listened to this month:

Everglow – Adios

This song already released in August, but I discovered it in September and listened to it daily. Though I still kind of hear Goodbye, Auvoirios instead of Au Revoir Adios and sometimes even sing along like that *oops*

Dreamcatcher – You and I

Yay, Dreamcatcher! I adore this dark, atmospheric, rock-inspired group so much <3 I love so many songs by them, but You And I is the first one I fell in love with, so I’m featuring it here. Also love Piri, Chase Me, Good Night and What. Oh, and if you want to fall in love with Dami’s deep rap like me, watch their epic cover of Bang Bang Bang.

Dreamcatcher – Deja Vu

And of course there is Dreamcatcher’s latest, the atmosperic and dreamy Deja Vu <3

Sleeping With Sirens – How It Feels To Be Lost

You didn’t think I’d forgotten about Sleeping With Sirens, right? Their new album released early September and when I haven’t been listening to Dreamcatcher, chances were most likely it was to this album.

What I Watched

Uhmmm, what is TV again? I kind of forgot this month. Maybe it’s that thing I always fall asleep in front of?

Life Update

Things that made me happy this month:

  • Pixel! Raising a puppy is a lot harder than I thought it would be, as she requires CONSTANT attention, but honestly I don’t mind because she’s adorable and I already declare her the best pup that ever will be! She grows so fast though. If you want to follow her progress, feel free to follow her instagram: @pixel_missrose (yes, we made an instagram account for our dog)Pixel
  • TWO ANNETTE MARIE ARCS. I love this author so much and I’m so blessed to be on her ARC team because I’ll never want to stop raving about her books.
  • Sleep. Honestly, I’m exhausted and I was happy every single time my feet touched my bed.

THINGS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

  • FALLL!!!!
  • HALLOWEEEEENNN!! (aka my birthday *shhtt*)
  • ALL THE BOOK RELEASES: Ninth House, The Beautiful, Into The Crooked Place, Wayward Son (Belgium release date anyway). LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
