Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today was a character freebie and this could have gone so many ways, but in the end I chose to gush a bit about my favorite secondary characters ever, because really I adore these characters so much that I just jumped on the opportunity to rave about them some more.

Also, while making this post, I realised that I could have easily written this same exact post about 3 years ago (with some exceptions) so why don’t I have any more recent favorite secondary characters? Do I just love these ones so much no other character can live up to them? I don’t know… So let me know your favorite secondary characters, and if they are from more recent books or also a bit more aged like mine!

Ty and Kit from The Dark Artifices series

Kit and Ty

As much as I loved The Dark Artifices series (and I did love this series so much), I was looking forward to these two’s scenes most of all and I wanted more. I know they will get their own series, but when? Not soon, that’s when. *cries*

Manon from the Throne of Glass series

Manon Blackbeak

From the moment Manon appeared in Heir of Fire, I was intrigued. When I read about her relationship with The Thirteen and her bond with Abraxos, I fell in love. Celaena who?

Johanna and Finnick from The Hunger Games series

Finnick and Johanna
  • Save

Everybody loves Finnick, the handsome flirt who became a close friend to Katniss. As do I OF COURSE! But I felt equally fond of Johanna Mason, the angry bitchy girl who favored the axe as a weapon and had a great enemies-to-friends relationship with Katniss.

Yumei from the Red Winter series

Yumei
  • Save

Yumei is the Prince of Shadows and Lord of Crows and I loved his character in the Red Winter series. He’s moody and secretive, and yet becomes such a good friend to Emi and Shiro. Can’t wait to read his story!

Nico from the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series

Nico di Angelo
  • Save

I loved Niko since the Percy Jackson series and was happy to see him again in the Heroes of Olympus series, though I missed his own POV. I was so happy in the final book when we finally got the POV of this son of Hades. He’s one of the most intriguing demigods to me and I’ll always want more of him! (Still need to read Trials of Apollo so I hope I see him again)

Nikolai from the Grisha trilogy

Nikolai Lantsov
  • Save

Ahh Nikolai Lantsov. The too-clever fox. The sass king. The prince of one-liners. I love him so much and am beyond excited he got his own book series, which is everything I ever hoped for… even if I haven’t even started it yet *oops*

Magnus Bane from the Shadowhunters series

Magnus Bane
  • Save

Come on, Magnus is THE character from all the Shadowhunter series we pretty much all agree on loving ,right? The sassy warlock won me over from the very first book, but at least 12 books later he’s still my fave. (plus Kit and Ty of course). He ALMOST makes me want to try the Shadowhunters tv series again. ALMOST, but not quite.

Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings

Samwise Gamgee
  • Save

MY FAVORITE CHARACTER OF ALL TIME! The most loyal friend anyone could ever wish for, I will always adore Samwise the Brave.

Kenji from the Shatter Me series

Kenji

What started out as just the funny sidekick turned out to be one of the most fun characters and the best friend ever. My favorite sassy friend with so much hidden depth. (and is it clear I like the sassy characters?)

To be honest I don’t even really remember Finnick from the books! That’s probably not something I should admit given how universally loved he seems to be, but I just can’t place him. I do remember him from the films though, so, that’s a good thing. πŸ™‚ Great to see some Top Ten Tuesday-ers featuring secondary characters.

YES JOHANNA! I loooooved Johanna so much and she doesn’t get enough love. Her relationship with Katniss was one of my favourites, and tbh I kind of wished the trilogy ended with the two of them travelling Panem to smash the patriarchy together.

Nikolai’s a great choice, too, and you definitely need to read King of Scars – his relationship with Zoya (who’s my personal fave from the Grisha trilogy) is so well written, I love their banter. Samwise is another excellent choice, too; he’s the heart of LotR to me.

Haha, I could totally get behind that Hunger Games ending, that would be amazing!
Ahh Nikolai, I definitely need to get to King of Scars ASAP! Also, yes Zoya, so happy she’s in the book as well πŸ™‚

Lindsey!!!!! THANK YOU for stopping by my blog. Yours is one I will always gravitate towards regardless, but it was just so nice to see your comment waiting for me when I woke up this morning! πŸ™‚ I am probably going to come back again later and hop a couple of your older posts (because I need to see some of your childhood favourites!).

ANYWAYS… I’m supposed to be rereading The Infernal Devices and then finally reading The Dark Artifices. Wish me luck. I’m trying to fit it into this year still….

SJM! She has soooo many amazing secondary characters. I mean, don’t even get me started. Manon though is definitely one of the best and had such an amazing character arc and *possible spoiler* such a heartbreaking conclusion in such wonderful series.
P.S. Super excited about Crescent City… Just saying.

OMG yes! Finnick and Joanna! Excellent pick.

Yumei! That’s also an excellent pick. Did you get the first part of his own book/backstory that AM was doing?

Nikolai! Have you read KoS? I just finished. GAH!!!

And I definitely need to read Shatter Me!

I feel the same way whenever I see a comment of yours, Di! <3
OMG The Infernal Devices, I want to reread those too - someday, maybe πŸ™‚ I do really hope you'll love The Dark Artifices, but I have a feeling you'll fall in love with the Blackthorn family as well πŸ™‚
Argh that conclusion for Manon - I had to put the book down at that point, I couldn't take it myself... Crescent City though, YES I'm so excited too!
Yeah I got the Yumei backstory, I'm so eager to read more!
I uhmmm didn't start King of Scars yet? *oops* I don't know why, I've been so excited for it and I LOVE Nikolai, but I'm also afraid to start? Soon though, I promise!!!
