Welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s all self-reflection, as I take a look at some of the fictional characters that remind me of myself. Now, obviously, none of the following characters are exactly me. But each of them have a few character traits that do remind me of myself.  Let’s go!

Leah  from Leah on the Offbeat

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

People either love or hate Leah and I’m in the category of those that love her. Sure, she can be rude and say the wrong thing, but she’s a teenager and her fears and insecurities and lashing out reminded me of myself as a teen.

Chandler and Monica from Friends

If anything, I’m definitely a mix of Chandler and Monica (OTP BTW). Sarcasm is my defense plus I’m a bit of a control freak.

Taylor from Queens of Geek

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde

Taylor’s geekiness, fangirliness and social anxiety really spoke to me.

Rory from Gilmore Girls

It may be a cliché for us booklovers, but I still consider Rory as one of the best representations of myself out there. Introverted lover of books, likes to learn new things, loves junk food.

Cath from Fangirl

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Take a heavy dose of fangirlyness and add loads of social anxiety and hey, it me!

Lara Jean from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

Lara Jean made homebodies cool again. Ain’t nothing wrong with being a homebody! I also relate to her love of escaping into fantasy worlds. I only WISH I could bake like her though.

Yuri from Yuri on Ice

Anxious, insecure and shy softie with a tendency to eat their mood? Me.

Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

One of my earliest role models, Willow reminded me of myself as a teen. She’s a witty, shy nerd, but she’s also an awesome friend (and I hope I am as well).

Honorable mentions:

Any sassy, sarcastic sidekick (think Seth Cohen, Stiles Stilinski or Nick Miller), Jessica Jones (without the badassery but with the same fashion choices and dark humor), Lane Kim from Gilmore Girls (gotta love the music), Samwise Gamgee (the most understated but loyal hobbit I aspire to be at all times), Desi Lee from I Believe in a Thing Called Love (awkward when it comes to love, but lover of kdramas) and Alice from Let’s Talk About Love (Pop Culture Fanatic,…)

Tell Me:
Do we have some fictional characters in common?
Do you also relate to any of the above characters?

  1. I really had a hard time this week because I love characters as they are written but they are obviously not as complex as a real person (me) Characters like me, a bit

  2. Ooh Cath is relatable to so many people, I think.

I love some of your honorable mentions too! Jessica Jones is all kinds of awesome, and of course Sam. 🙂

  3. I absolutely love Rory. She’s a fantastic character. 🙂 So many of these are very relatable to me as well.

  4. Lara Jean! And yes Rory. And oh yeah Monica. The whole need for control is me, more so as I get older to be honest. I have a hard time not butting in when things are being organized. It requires a lot of self-control *grits teeth*

  5. Cath made my list this week too.

  6. Totally yes to Leah and Taylor for me. I wish I could say yes to Rory and Willow but they are way too school heavy for me haha Great list!

  7. I love this list! I’m also quite sarcastic and can totally relate to characters who use sarcasm as bread and butter. Also, definitely relate to Lara and her tendency to escape in the fantasy world!

  8. I agree with Rory for the books, but I definitely don’t talk as fast as her or have an addiction to coffee!

  9. Willow was on my list this week, too! Wasn’t she a wonderful character?

  10. Great list! I love Leah so much and saw so much of myself in her, too, so you’re not alone there. Monica and Chandler are such good choices! I love their relationship. One of these days I need to watch Buffy – I feel like I’m missing out!

  11. I really want to watch Gilmore Girls – I’ll definitely be able to relate to Rory!

    My TTT post!

  12. I definitely relate to Rory and Chandler!

  13. Totally agree with Rory, and Cath (social anxiety, bookworm, loves fanfiction. etc.)

  14. Aw, Rory. I know I saw a little bit of myself in her as well. Such a relatable TV character.

  15. I love your list! My husband adored Friends when it originally aired. Then, when Netflix picked it up, my two teen girls became OBSESSED with the show. It’s become a family thing. ?

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  16. Oh I am totally like Chandler– definitely NOT Monica. And I wish I was like Lara Jean!! She’s awesome!! It would be cool to just have her style sense!

  17. Willow made my list too!

    Lauren @ Always Me

  18. LOVE Lara Jean and awww, wish I’d remembered Rory. She’s the best, and of course, Lara Jean is the best kind of “ordinary,” which is in no way anything but a compliment. I love how we can relate to her!

  19. Leah and Cath are both on my list. Chandler should probably be there too! {And yes, he and Monica are definitely my OTP as well!}
