Welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!

Today’s all about inspiring quotes! I love me some quotes, and I already did a feature on my favorite quotes, romantic quotes and first lines, as well as my weekly Quote It Wednesday (at the moment sadly still on hiatus), so today I wanted to focus on something near and dear to my heart, and that is introversion.

I’m a very introvert person, and all too often I have to deal with people telling me that I should be different: speak more, get out of my shell, basically change my personality. I even had someone recently who told me, in response to me saying I am the way I am and don’t need to change, that that’s the same things alcoholics say, that it’s just an excuse and there’s no reason we can’t get better. As if introversion is something that needs to be cured (spoiler: it’s not) I have struggled with this a lot, and often cursed myself for not being able to change. But you know what? I am happy the way I am. I like the way I am. And I don’t need to change who I am for anyone!

So here are some of my favorite introvert ‘power-quotes’, quotes that inspire me and cheer me up whenever I’m feeling blue about being an introvert. If you’re an introvert like me, I hope they can inspire you too. And if you’re an extravert, I hope they can inspire you to understand and love your introvert loved ones that little bit more. Either way, introvert, extravert or ambivert: you are awesome, just the way you are!

  1. It’s amazing how many people think introversion is something to be “changed” or fixed, as if there’s something wrong with being introverted! I mean we’re all different, not everyone has to be outgoing or extroverted or whatever… I’m always surprised when people don’t get that! Anyway, I like how you did this. Great quotes! I especially love the Sense and sensibility one, and the last one. Also that one from Quiet, about the right “lighting”. That’s awesome. 🙂

  2. I love that last one. Nothing wrong with being an introvert. <3

  3. These quotes are AMAZING. I feel so encouraged. I’m so sick and tired of people telling me I need to speak more and do this and do that, and it’s only when I started embracing my introvert-ness did I start to feel some kind of peace. More extroverts need to realise that introverts don’t need to change anything!

  4. This is such an inspiring post all around. You are so right, I used to feel so much pressure to change and be more extroverted. To the point that I would put myself in social situations where I’d be miserable – I think most of us can relate to this. The older I got the more I realized, that it’s perfectly ok that I like a more quiet space and prefer one-on-one when I do see people. We all have something to bring to the table and I think a lot of people would appreciate the quiet moments if they let themselves have them a little more.

Great quotes and I’m always partial to my girl Austen.

  5. That person who compared introverts to alcoholics is insane. Like, what?! There is nothing wrong with being an introvert, and I love these quotes. I’ve heard of the book Quiet – sounds like something I’d enjoy.

  6. Speaking as a fellow introvert here, thank you for this post! I’ve been shamed for this personality trait, too. It takes courage to embrace it when others think of it as a flaw.

    My TTT.

  7. I love your list! I’ve never understood the problem some people have with introversion, it’s so strange to me. I have my most profound and important conversations with introverts and I love it. I don’t really know if I’m an introvert myself – to be honest I think I’m an ambivert – but I do know I’d much rather discuss something meaningful than chat about the weather.

So many lovely quotes here – I love that Plato quote!

  8. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being an introvert :3 I think we all are to a certain extent.
    Great quotes!

  9. I’m an introvert and it’s ridiculous how much people think that’s a bad thing! Yes I’m quiet, and I like my own space and need time to decompress after socialising but that doesn’t mean that I’m boring, or that I don’t have anything worthwhile to contribute!

I love this post so much! I’m an introvert as well and people give me such a hard time about it. As you said, people always seem to be trying to “fix” introverts. I’ve also had people call me a snob because I’m not talkative. (Apparently being quiet means I think I’m too good to talk to other people?!) Anyway, I love all these quotes. 🙂 Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  11. LOVE these quotes! They definitely spoke to the introvert in me!

  12. I can be pretty introverted, so these quotes really speak to me!

  13. Very nice.

I’m definitely an introvert, but I have absolutely no problem talking to anybody on Twitter (I don’t care how famous you are) and I’ve never had a problem with acting either. Make me talk to a stranger… that’s really scary.
