Welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!
Today’s all about what makes me pick up a book. Now I’m pretty easy as I tend to like the same tropes and I can read about them over and over and over again. Here are just a few of the things that make me pick up a book for sure (I did not include dragons, but rest assured, dragons ALWAYS work as well).
I don’t think there’s any trope I love quite as much as the enemies-to-lovers trope. Give me all the hate slowly (keyword: slowly) turning into respect, turning into friendship, turning into love.
This trope has got to be a close, verryyy close, second place, because I’m a sucker for the found family trope. Give me all the misfits coming together and discovering they form their own family <3
There something about penpal romance. I love when two people get to know eachother on paper first, and only later meet up. It’s romantic.
WE NEED ALL THE AMAZING PLATONIC FRIENDSHIPS PLEASE! If I even hear that a book has great friendships, I’m all over it.
As much as I am a sucker for romance, there’s something about asexual representation in books I can’t get enough of either. Too bad there’s not a lot of this yet, but I’m loving all the ones I’ve read so far!
I love me some kdrama. So when a book blurb mentions something like ‘for fans of kdrama’, I’m picking up that book so fast!
I said I’m a sucker for romance, but most of all I love my romance with a slooow burn. No instalove for me, I want to angst and swoon and I want it to take so long that I am smiling like an idiot when the two leads finally hold hands or something.
Ah, another classic trope I can’t get enough of! Give me all the fake dating and then slowly falling in love. Bonus points if the two leads have to share a bed because they’re supposedly dating, I’m not even kidding.
Forget all the above tropes, if one of my favorite authors has a new book coming out, I’m on it.
The wonderful thing about being a book blogger is that there are so many recommendations all around. Nothing gets me more excited to pick up a book than seeing someone else rave about it.
