Hi everybody! Since we are (almost) at the middle of the year again, I thought it would be fun to take a step back and look at what 2018 has been like so far and also to take a look at what’s still to come with the Mid Year Book Freakout Tag (2018 version)! This tag is created by ReadLikeWildfire and Ely Jayne

2018 Reading Challenge

At this moment I have read 30  books of my total goal of 60  books to be read this year. So looks like I’m right on track! (Though honestly I did read six issues of the Fence comic which are suuuper short so it’s a little cheating but I’m counting them anyway because reading is reading right?) Let’s get started!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2018.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I AM STILL NOT OVER THIS BOOK! I loved it so much, and I NEED to know what happens next. The Wicked King is still too far away *cries*

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2018.

The Shadow Weave by Annette Marie

Honestly, Annette Marie books just keep getting better and better as they go.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

I want to read this, but I’m also scared. Does that make sense?

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

Wildcard by Marie Lu

OMG the anticipation is real! I need to know what happens next to Emiko, Hideo, Zero and the Phoenix Riders.

5. Biggest disappointment.

Immortal Reign by Morgan Rhodes

This was a satisfying finale – but I was just disappointed because I started out loving this series and six books later I just wasn’t as in love with it anymore… I don’t think I’l ever re-read and that’s a pity for a series I invested so many years in.

6. Biggest surprise.

Warcross by Marie Lu

It shouldn’t have been a surprise because there were so many rave reviews right? But see, the thing is there were also many rave reviews for Marie Lu’s other series… and I never really got into them. So I kind of thought she was just not an author for me. But then I read Warcross and OH BOY I LOVED IT SO!

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

To Kill A Kingdom by Alexandra Christo Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

Both of these books are written by an author I hadn’t read before and both of these were solid 5 star reads <3

8. Newest fictional crush.

Let's Talk About Love by Claire Kann The Night Realm by Annette Marie

Takumi from Let’s Talk About Love stole my heart right from the start. But of course, I can’t forget about my favorite inubus, Lyre, from the Spell Weaver trilogy either.

9. Newest favourite character.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

Madeline from Big Little Lies. She’s sassy, protective, loyal, impulsive and a pro grudge-holder and I love her for it!

10. Book that made you cry.

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren

The emotions are real! So real, I started over from page 1 right after finishing it.

11. Book that made you happy.

Let's Talk About Love by Claire Kann

Aww, this was just the cutest, okay?

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

Big Little Lies

Technically, it’s a mini series instead of a film, but who cares? IT WAS AMAZING. I have never seen a more perfect cast before.

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year.

Well, I love writing rave reviews, so I guess Autoboyography, The Cruel Prince or Eliza and her Monsters.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

The Night Itself by Zoë Marriott Shadows on the Moon by Zoë Marriott Barefoot on the Wind by Zoë Marriott

I received all these three beautiful books from my husband for our anniversary. Aren’t they gorgeous? I haven’t read them yet though, so I should get on that!

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

vicious-by-v-e-schwab Ruined by Amy Tintera Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie

Umm, too many too count? But let’s start with these three, which have been on my TBR for quite a while already.

I tag you! What are some of your favorites this year so far? And your most anticipated reads for the rest of the year?

  1. I have only 3 books that really stuck out so far this year. My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie, Ecstasy by Mary Sharratt and Women Breaker by Avie Adams 🙂

    1. I don’t think I know any of these books, but if they stood out to you I’ll have to check them out!

  2. I loved The Cruel Prince as well! Thank you for sharing your books, will add to my tbr pile!

    1. The Cruel Prince is definitely one of the bookish highlights of the year 🙂

  3. I’m doing this tag on Saturday. Congrats on being ahead with your goal! I’m behind on mine. I still need to read The Cruel Prince because everybody raves about it. I just got Eliza and her Monsters. Hopefully I’ll read it before the end of the year. I hope you like Vicious. I need to reread that one before the sequel comes out.

    1. Oh I’ll need to check out your tag!
I’m sure you’ll catch up to your goal soon and as long as you’re enjying what you’re reading it’s already a success right? Hope you’ll like The Cruel Prince and Eliza and her Monsters. I’m hoping to get to Vicious in time for the sequel 🙂

  4. I’m working on my draft of this tag, and The Cruel Prince is my favorite read of the year so far too!

    1. It definitely is such a great book, I’m glad to hear you loved it too! Hope to check out your tag soon 🙂

  5. Oh this is a terrible post. I have several of these books on my wishlist and you added more to that list! LOL My reading has been cut a bit short this year but I hope to pick it up later on. At least I have a good list of books to try!

    1. Haha sorry to keep adding to your TBR 😉 It’s definitely a good problem to have though, plenty of books to choose from when you get back into reading.

  6. Reading is reading! And Vicious I need to read as well! Maybe we could buddy read this summer if you’d like?

    1. Oh a Vicious buddy read sounds great! I’d definitely be up for that! I have the book on my shelf, so just let me know when you’d like to start 🙂

  7. Uma, Amy and I are all still reading The Cruel Prince but I’ve enjoyed where we’ve got to so far.

    Spell Weaver!!!!!!!!!! Yaaasss!

I won’t read Reaper until closer to the release of the next book because… I have to reread Ember and Torch anyways so I may as well get to them all again when I can just binge.

I’m sad to hear about the ending of Falling Kingdoms! I’m trying my best to pick that series up this month.

I’m also about to start to read To Kill a Kingdom tomorrow and I really want to try fit Vicious in this month or next!

Awesome tag Lindsey! Loved reading your answers.

    1. Ahh I really, really hope you’ll love The Cruel Prince! 🙂
That’s actually a good idea to read Reaper a little later – I don’t remember that much from Torch so I was wondering if I could make it without a re-read or not…
I think a lot of my problems with the end of Falling Kingdoms is just because I read each book a year or more apart… I think the experience will be better if you can binge them – I still hope you’ll love them 🙂
Yay To Kill A Kingdom and Vicious! Hope you enjoy!!
