Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Something Different Sunday! Last week, I talked about the songs that dominated my 2017 playlist and included a whole buch of songs. But if there’s one thing I’ll remember about 2017 musically, it’s my growing love and adoration for k-pop. So I figured I could do another music themed post, focusing solely on k-pop and more specifically, my favorite 2017 releases.

Now, I’m still a relatively new fan and there are sooo many bands and artists out there that I can’t even begin to get to know. So I’m always open to new k-pop recommendations! But in the meantime, here are mine:

BTS – Spring Day

Let’s get the toughest one out of the way first! I love pretty much every single song this band releases and 2017 has had a lot of awesomeness from them. So this was a tough decision as I wanted to include them all, but while Not Today got me through the year, DNA was the first comeback I got to experience and Mic Drop remix is such a jam, there is no denying that the sweet and beautiful Spring Day is one of their best songs and videos ever. The MV alone is like a little gorgeous short film.

Monsta X – Dramarama

This band has been on my radar for a while and I have loved many songs by them, but Dramarama took it to a whole other level again.

EXO – Power

Though others may add Ko Ko Bop to their list, I’ve been especially addicted to the catchy tunes and cheesy kitschy music video of Power.

BlackPink – As If It’s Your Last

BlackPink in your area! I love this band and can’t wait for their 2018 comeback, but in the meantime I’ll just keep jamming to this song and singing along to Lisa’s rap.

NCT127 – Cherry Bomb

Though I honestly wasn’t a huge fan of this at first, the catchy tunes and awesome choreo quickly won me over and now this song gets me going like crazy.

Twice – Likey

I don’t know Twice that well, but this bubblegum song had me addicted pretty soon. I can’t get ready now without singing “BBCream papapa, lipstick mamama”….

Chanyeol & Punch – Stay With Me

Goblin is my favorite k-drama that I watched in 2017, and the gorgeous soundtrack may have had something to do with that!

Cross Gene – Black or White

This band is so underrated and deserves much more. Black or White is so sexy and catchy. Warning: the video is very dark and bloody and pretty much a little horror movie. Also, kdrama lovers may recognize the group’s leader Shin Won Ho from his role as Tae-o, the cute hacker boy in The Legend of the Blue Sea.

Taemin – Move

This song is just so sexy, and Taemin is a dancer you can’t tear your eyes away from.

G-Dragon – Untitled

I love G-Dragon and his solo album this year was so good!

BONUS: BIG BANG – FXXK IT

Well, the music video was released in 2017 so this counts, right? Anyway, a k-pop list without Big Bang feels incomplete and FXXK IT is just such a feel good song.

DO YOU LIKE K-POP? WHICH WERE YOUR FAVORITE 2017 RELEASES?

  1. Okay: YES! I adore Move, Stay With Me (Chanyeol’s voice…), Spring Day, Power and Dramarama too. Although I have to say that my favorite Monsta X song might be Beautiful and that I’m addicted to The Eve by EXO over Power. Also really like Love by Taemin and anything and everything Blackpink.

I’m rambling now, sorry! I hadn’t heard of Cross Gene before, so I listened to it while writing this comment and the song is amazing! Thanks πŸ˜€
