Yuri On Ice Book Tag

Hi guys, and welcome to this very special Tag Thursday! Why is this one so special, you may ask?

Well, it’s the first time I actually made my own ORGINAL BOOK TAG! Woop, woop! As you may or may not know, I have recently fallen in love (some may call it obsessed) with a little anime called Yuri!!! On Ice. Now, I never would have guessed I would become addicted to an anime about ice figure skaters, but here I am! I saw this show mentioned on Twitter regularly and got intrigued so I checked out the first few episodes and became hooked.

It’s about Katsuki Yuri, a Japanese figure skater who lost badly in his last Grand Prix. He’s suffering from crippling self-doubt and anxiety and is thinking about retiring until a video of him skating the routine of his idol, Victor Nikiforov, goes viral and none other than Victor himself shows up to coach him. This show is just so beautiful and funny and heartwarming. Yuri is such a relatable main character and the evolution of his relationship with Victor (an actual canon LGBTQIA+ relationship) is a joy to watch. I adored the 12 episodes and am keeping my fingers crossed for a second season!

And in the meantime, why not combine two things I love and do a little Yuri On Ice Book Tag?

Here we go!

1 Yuri Katsuki

Fangirl by Rainbow RowellWell, it may kind of be a cliché answer, but that doesn’t make it any less true. I totally relate to the character of Cath in Fangirl.

Why?

She’s starting college but has trouble dealing with social situations so she escapes in fanfiction. When I was in college, I had a lot of social anxiety issues myself. I dealt with it with music mostly, but also by reading a ton of Harry Potter fanfiction. Also, while I didn’t have a Levi hanging around my dorm, I do have a brother called Levy. Not quite, but close!

2 Victor Nikiforov

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. RowlingSo, I read somewhere that the name Victor Nikiforov basically translates to Winner Winnerson. Hmm, let me think about which book I think of first when I think of a Winner Winnerson…

Yeah, of course I have to go with the Harry Potter series. I mean, it is a legendary, well-loved book series. But it is one that is totally and completely worth all the hype in my view. It’s one of those series that has become a classic in a relatively short time period, it is timeless, can be re-read constantly and is always both relatable and inspiring. I’d definitely call it a winner!

3 Yuri Plisetsky

the-love-interest-by-cale-dietrich2017 is completely filled with a ton of really amazing sounding debuts. But, if I had to chose just one, it would definitely be The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich.

This blurb just sounds so, so good! This book sounds like a perfectly funny and original take on all these tropes and I am so here for it! I mean, this is about a spy school that trains these teens to become tropes. Their assignment is to get close to a girl and whoever doesn’t get the girl, dies. And then they end up falling for eachother instead? THIS SHIP, I AM ALREADY ON IT!

4 Phichit Chulanont

Ruin and Rising by Leigh BardugoWell, there are a few characters I would love to be able to follow on social media. But come one, no social media account could be more fun than Nikolai Lantsov‘s!

First of all, I am a little obsessed with this character, so being able to stalk follow him on social media would be amazing! Plus, could you just imagine his instagram or twitter account? I think it would be filled with hilarious and sassy observations, mixed with a ton of selfies (because that’s just Nikolai), AND it would still be totally inspirational, topical and relevant. While patiently waiting for a Nikolai spin-off, a Nikolai social media account would totally help pass the time, just saying…

5 Christophe Giacometti

The Deal by Elle KennedyFor this one I have gone with The Deal by Elle Kennedy, but really, I could have picked about any new adult book.

I mean, sure it’s nice to look at, but is it really necessary to put abs on EVERY SINGLE COVER? I mean, get a little creative people. Also, it makes me feel a little like a perv reading this in public. Luckily there are ebooks, so nobody has to see, but even then… new adult does contain quite a few smutty scenes. Just reading that in public makes me feel awkward. I see someone looking at me and it’s like “OMG they totally figured out what I’m reading. They’re so judging me. ABORT! ABORT! Well… maybe after this chapter…”

6 Otabek Altin

Cinder by Marissa MeyerJust like Otabek, I was not expecting to even like Cinder by Marissa Meyer. I was extremely skeptical about it – a sci-fi Cinderella retelling with a cyborg Cinderella? Eh. But so many people liked it, so I at least owed it a chance, right?

And all of a sudden I was 2 weeks and 4 books later and I had a new obsession. The world of the Lunar Chronicles is so amazing and I fell head over heels in love with every single one of the characters. This is pretty much one of the best fictional squads ever. And the cyborg Cinderella became one of my favorite heroines. So you never know, sometimes a book can surprise you.

7 JJ Leroy

a-conjuring-of-light-by-v-e-schwabEVERYONE GIVE IT UP FOR ALL LONDONS’ FAVORITE FIGHTING PIRATE!

LILA BARD!

Oh yes. Delilah Bard would totally have her own theme song (and in Gathering of Shadows, she actually kind of does.) I can totally see her scouring the seas, taking over ships and kicking ass while her own original theme song plays in the background.

I CAN RULE THE WORLD, LILA, JUST FOLLOW ME. I WILL BREAK THE WALLS, NOW LOOK AT ME…

8 Guang-Hong Ji

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky AlbertalliOh hi, Lindsey mentions her favorite! …Again…

Ok, I know, I know, I never stop talking about Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. But really, it’s just too good to not talk about it. This book has so much going for it: a lovable protagonist, great friendship dynamics, nerdy references, a family that is not only present but also supportive… I mean, it’s just an all-around amazing book. But, what I like most of all about it is just the overall cuteness of the Simon-Blue relationship. Reading their e-mails and seeing it evolve from a connection to a friendship and then get constantly more cute and flirty and evolving into something more… it put the hugest smile on my face and made this book a re-read must.

9 Nishigori Family

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas#Truefact: all of the following names are on my ‘if-I-ever-have-kids-this-is-what-I-may-call-them-list’:

Celaena: Because it sounds nice and I love the weird spelling.

Aelin: Because it again sounds nice and is an anagram for my grandmothers’ name.

Dorian: Because he’s a cinnamon roll.

Abraxos: … Euhm…. well obviously this would be for a cat or dog, not a kid…

10 Victuuri

Six of Crows by Leigh BardugoSpoilers for Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom so highlight if you want to read on:

I picked Jesper and Wylan for this one because 1) they are one of my favorite LGTBQIA+ relationships, 2) I love them so, so much and 3) in a way, I feel like they are kind of similar to Victor and Yuri. I mean, there is the awkward young guy (Wylan/Yuri) and the more experienced, sassy guy who can’t stop flirting with him (Jesper/Victor).  I don’t know, I just feel like Victor and Yuri are secretly Jesper and Wylan in an ice skating AU. Or Jesper and Wylan are Victor and Yuri in a fantasy heist AU. Either way, they fit and I love them both 🙂

11 Eros

red-winter-by-annette-marieLadies and gentleman, it is my pleasure to introduce you to my new, absolute favorite flirty character in all of existance (sorry Nikolai, I still love you) and that is: Shiro from the Red Winter trilogy by Annette Marie.

Shiro is such a fun character. He’s a kitsune, which is a mischievous fox spirit. He’s cunning, morally grey, fierce and mysterious (seriously, he’s even a mystery to himself because he is cursed and has amnesia so he doesn’t know who he is). But other than that, he’s an extremely flirty character. His flirting with our main character Emi is a joy to watch. Such eros!

12 Agape

The Raven Boys by Maggie StiefvaterI don’t think I’ve ever seen a platonic friendship more beautiful and enchanting than that of Blue and her Raven Boys. This quote probably says it all:

“Blue was perfectly aware that it was possible to have a friendship that wasn’t all-encompassing, that wasn’t blinding, deafening, maddening, quickening. It was just that now that she’d had this kind, she didn’t want the other.”

But I especially love the relationship between Blue and Ronan. It feels like such a natural, teasing, brother/sister relationship.

That was the Yuri on Ice Book Tag!
Tagging

I’m horrible at tagging, especially because I’m not sure who else is a Yuri On Ice fan. So I’m tagging BooksAreLife987 and anyone else who likes Yuri On Ice and would love to do this tag. Feel free to use the banners or create your own. And please credit me and let me know if you did the tag because I’d love to find out your answers!

Or feel free to talk to me in the comments! which character do you wish you could follow on social media? who would totally have their own theme song? Which is your most anticipated upcoming debut?
