Ten Characters I’d Name A Kid (Or Pet) After {Top Ten Tuesday}

Hosted by The Broke & The Bookish

At present time, I do not have any kids or pets. I do, however, have a LIST OF NAMES I’d like to use one day for a kid or pet (whichever comes first).

Fair warning: I’m pretty shallow when it comes to names. This list contains names that I think sound nice and has NOTHING to do with whether or not I actually LIKE the character. If a villain has a pretty name, I wouldn’t mind naming someone after them. However, I would probably keep that little fact to myself then 😉

So here’s my list of names! For fun, I did add a few personality traits.

>> Celaena <<

From:

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Character traits I’d like my hypothetical kid (or pet) to share:

badassery, tenacity, snark, love of books

Character traits I’d like my hypothetical kid (or pet) to share:

>> Kaden <<

From:

The  Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson

Character traits I’d like my hypothetical kid (or pet) to share:

Honestly, I only read book one and it’s been a while ago so I don’t remember well enough. So I need a re-read and a pass for this one…

BONUS:

>> Abraxos <<

(This would obviously be a pet name. I would not be so cruel to name a kid Abraxos. But a dog, cat, or dragon? YES)

From:

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Character traits I’d like my hypothetical pet to share:

A fierce warrior spirit, combined with a cinnamon roll, flower-sniffing personality.

Any of these names on your hypothetical list as well?
What are the characters you would name a kid (or pet) after?
Would you only name them after good characters or are villains also ok if the name is pretty?

  1. I love these!! The character traits are a great little add on, so thoughtful!! 😀

    1. Thanks! It’s funny because I didn’t think about character traits when I first made the list, but then I figured I’d do the exercise and it still turned out pretty good for most of them 😉

  2. I like Celaena and Aelin, and Luna is nice too. For some reason Luna seems like a great cat name. I like Rhys as well. Kaden is not bad. Seems like that would be a good girls name.

    1. Yes, Luna is definitely a name that can be used for both kids and pets. And it does seem to fit perfectly for cats!
Kaden was actually a buy in the book, but now that you mention it, it does seem to fit even better for a girl! I’m gonna go ahead and add this to my girl names list as well 🙂

  3. THESE ALL ARE GREAT NAMES!!! plus I am soo sooo glad you included Dorian, that little cinnamon roll.
also you it was wise of you to include the character traits. Mind if I suggest some for Maven?? that are- evil overlord, but cinnamon roll inside, swoony??

    1. Thank you! And yes, I adore Dorian so ther was no way I could have left him out!
Haha, I love your character traits for Maven, they describe him perfectly 😉

  4. I had Celaena on the first names list I had done and I still love it!! I think Ruby, Thalia and Luna are great too. Love how you put the traits you would want them to share with the character. Awesome list!!

    1. Thank you! I really love the name Celaena and especially this way of spelling it 🙂

  5. I think Luna is going to become a super popular name! My sister and her husband named their daughter Luna, because they are huge Harry Potter fans, but even if people don’t know it from that, it’s still a very pretty name!

    1. Yes, that’s exactly why I like the name Luna! It’s great if you know the character, but it’s also just such a pretty name on its’ own 🙂

  6. I love Ruby and Luna! I loved reading all the traits!! Fantastic list, Lindsey!

    1. Thank you 🙂 I love Ruby and Luna because they refer to great characters, but they are also still just really pretty names on their own.

  7. Jace is a cool one! I know people who have used Luna for a baby girl, it’s cute 🙂

    1. Luna does seem to be a popular name, but it’s just so cute 🙂

  8. Abraxos would definitely be a good pet name! Like for a rescue cat or dog or something 🙂 I think Maas really comes up with a lot of great names for her characters! Thalia and Luna are great names, both for kids and pets 🙂

    1. Yes, naming a rescue cat or dag Abraxos would feel like a perfect fit! I actually only realized after finsishing the list that about 40% of the names came from a Sarah J. Maas book, oops 🙂

  9. Luna would be a good name for a cat. 🙂 Too bad I’m Allergic! 🙁
Great Top Ten 😀 My Top Ten Tuesday!

    1. Oh that’s too bad you’re allergic! I love cats, but unfortunately my husband is allergic so I’ll just stick to thinking of names 😉

  10. Sarah J. Maas has some very odd character names, but they’re all so wonderful! I love Celaena, Dorian, Rhys, Lysandra, and Elain/Elena (I just love that name in general, so pretty!) especially. I really want to name one of my future cats after Lysandra and Rhys, maybe even get them at the same time. I love the name Maven too, but defintly more for a kid than a pet. There are so many great character names though, it’s impossible to choose! My TTT: http://glitteringreads.com/2016/10/18/ten-wonderful-names-i-might-just-use-for-my-future-cats/

    1. Yes, Sarah J. Maas definitely has some of my favorite fictional names ever (or maybe that’s also because I love her characters so much). I could have made a top ten with only her names 😉 I love Lysandra and Elain/Elena too!

  11. I love your list! I almost put Luna on mine as well but ended up going with Minerva instead. So many Harry Potter characters would make great pet names 🙂

    1. Yes, Minerva is a perfect name for a cat! Definitely, almost all Harry Potter characters would make great pet names: Remus, Sirius, Draco, Percy, Charlie, you name it 😉

  12. i love the name Kaden myself

    1. It’s a great name! I had it in mind for a boy, but could be used for a girl as well.

  13. Great list! I love the addition of the character traits you’d like your pet/kid to share with their namesake.

    1. Thanks! It was a fun little exercise into how well I remembered the books to add the character traits 🙂
