What it’s about:

When the mysterious fog of the Ruining crept over the world, the living died and the dead rose. Only the walled city of Viyara was left untouched.

The heirs of the city’s most powerful—and warring—families, Mahyanai Romeo and Juliet Catresou share a love deeper than duty, honor, even life itself. But the magic laid on Juliet at birth compels her to punish the enemies of her clan—and Romeo has just killed her cousin Tybalt. Which means he must die.

Paris Catresou has always wanted to serve his family by guarding Juliet. But when his ward tries to escape her fate, magic goes terribly wrong—killing her and leaving Paris bound to Romeo. If he wants to discover the truth of what happened, Paris must delve deep into the city, ally with his worst enemy . . . and perhaps turn against his own clan.

Mahyanai Runajo just wants to protect her city—but she’s the only one who believes it’s in peril. In her desperate hunt for information, she accidentally pulls Juliet from the mouth of death—and finds herself bound to the bitter, angry girl. Runajo quickly discovers Juliet might be the one person who can help her recover the secret to saving Viyara.

Both pairs will find friendship where they least expect it. Both will find that Viyara holds more secrets and dangers than anyone ever expected. And outside the walls, death is waiting. . . .

Why I am waiting for this release:

This is a fantasy Romeo and Juliet retelling featuring necromancers. OF COURSE I want to read this, because it sounds amazing!

Also, I’m kind of hoping it will really put a spin on the Romeo and Juliet story and end up being a m/m and f/f romance…. Anyone else feeling the same way?

What book release are you eagerly anticipating?

    1. Thanks! It does sound a bit creepy, but still so intriguing! And the cover looks really pretty (and also a little creepy) 🙂

  2. Ohhh that book sounds SO original, I love the whole idea behind it. And I would be so interested to see the story take a different spin, with another kind of romance. It would be SO awesome.

    1. I agree completely! I guess it kind of takes place after the ‘original Romeo and Juliet’ story so it would be really nice if they just go in a completely unexpected way. Like ‘don’t kill yourself over someone you just met, because here’s what still could have happened (if you were brought back to life)…’ 😉 Anyway, I’m intrigued by this story 🙂

  3. Yes! This is one of my highly anticipated books as well! I absolutely loved Rosamund Hodge’s previous books so I’m crossing my fingers this one will be just as good. 🙂 Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous choice! <3

    1. Thanks! I really loved Cruel Beauty so I also have high hopes for this one! 🙂
